Mission

While global environmental issues such as climate change receive much attention, slow but steady degradations of our immediate surrounding nature progresses.

Interdisciplinary and broad perspectives and approaches play critical roles in addressing environmental problems at a wide range of spatial scales. Besides, we need ones who are capable of making scientifically robust judgements and proposing practical solutions.

Cherishing one of the foundation spirits of Hokkaido University, practical learning and research, our lab is commited to contribute to the realization of sustainable society by eventually proposing practical ways to better manage natural resources.

A majority of research activities is firmly based on the field of ecology and geomorphology and focuses on freshwater ecosystems (i.e., lakes and rivers) and their watersheds.
