Went over to the bank by the station near where we used to live around
30 years ago and checked the old account. There was a little money and
we withdrew it. Now all my bank accounts have become the way we want them
to be. We rode our bike all the way to that bank in this summer heat. Reckless
riders! By the way there used to be a nice Japanese sweets shop here. We
checked it out. Voila, it was still there. We bought some sweets. Our two
sons liked the sweets very much when they were little.
Tuesday, July 30, 2013 Cloudy
Had to report for work earlier than usual for the anual checkup. I just
had my chest X-rayed and my urine tested. That was it. Then I finished
up the 3rd-term exam o\in C English T.Taking three hours off, off to the
Korean classroom. After that, bought two portions of the usual pork cutlet
bento for my wife and me, as usual. Had to buy some beer as well. The air
was lukewarm wherever I went if not air-conditioned. A kind of inferno.
Monday, July 29, 2013 Cloudy and so very humid!!!
The discomfort index must be extremely high tonight. The humidity is
nearly 80 percent. It is necessary, at least, to dishumidify with the air
conditioner. Today at work some English retest were given. Quite a few
students came to take their retest. Finished marking the exam papers, correcting
some reports, and inputting all the data by 4:00 p.m. or so. Resumed making
the 3rd-term exam in Communication English T, trying to make it as easy
as I can.
Sunday, July 28, 2013 Cloudy
Did not get up at the usual time this morning. Hence no jogging. Just
a lazy holiday doing nothing but reading. Finished one library book and
returned it in time, checking out another at the same time. It is humanly
impossible to do things actively in this hot and humid weather.
Saturday, July 27, 2013 Cloudy
While reading a book this morning, I felt like reading some English paperback,
so order it from Amazon. It will come tomorrow. Except for my daily slow-jogging,
I did nothing else outside. I came across another interesting book, but
it was not in paperback form yet. Just rain check on that.
Friday, July 26, 2013 Cloudy
It is hot and humid like crazy. It is hard to breathe in this heat and humidity. I staggered my way home. At work the 3rd-term Reading reports are now done. Begun making the 3rd-term C English Ttest because otherwise I will have to make three different exams at the same time. My workload is much heavier than the other teachers'.
Thursday, July 25, 2013 Fair and hot!!!
All the marking of the exam papers and the input of the results are done
now. Resumed making the 3rd-term Reading reports. Only one third is done.
Today our fellow English teacher, who was operated on for appendicitis,
came back to work. He looked OK, but by the time he left the workplace,
he looked a bit tire, which is a matter of course. Went to the Chinese
class-day 4.
Wednesday, July 24, 2013 Cloudy
Almost finished marking the Reading exam papers. Had it not been for
parking lot duty, I could have finised it today. The English Interview
Room on the fifth floor was like a steam bath today. Humidity was just
unbearably high. It is the humidity that gets me, not the heat. On coming
back home, drank beer. Tunred on the air conditioner for the first time
this summer. The cats also seem to be happy with that. We can not longer
rough it.
Tuesday, July 23, 2013 Fair
Today's sign language club meeting was a lecture, so I decided not to
attend it because leaving the place in the middle of the lecture would
be bad manners. Went to the Korean class in the afternoon, again making
a simple spelling error in class. Analyzind that error, I came to the conclusion
that I made it because of the wrong pronuciation of the phrase. After all,
in foreign language learning, what matters is pronunciation.
Monday, July 22, 2013 Fair and maybe cloudy.
I forgot to write in this dairy yesterday. Went to the polls for the
Upper House election. I wonder why so many young people vote for those
political parties which are eager to change the Constitution. Do they really
want to go to war? My dad went to war in Manchuria. He told me about his
war experiences. Young people maybe do not know what it is like to go to
war. Today at work I worked like crazy. I never wanted to, but I had to.
I invigilated two exams, corrected dozens of reports, and marked the exam
papers. I was not finished with all the work I had to, but I had to leave
because time was up. What a day! I am a retired teacher. However, I work
like a full-time one. What a rip-off!
Saturday, July 20, 2013 Fair
Yesterday I could not get on the Internet. I had no idea what happened,
so anyway I tried another way, that is, the wifi connection. Now the Internet
connection is wireless. Finished reading another library book and returned
it at night.
Friday, July 19, 2013 Fair
Busy at work invigilating two exams in a row. No time to mark the exam
papers. Did some paperwork in the office. Back home, found something wrong.
While at work, couldn't afford to notice that because I was running around
all the time. My wife pointed it out rather sarcastically, which kind hurt
my feelings, as is often the case. She cannot imagine how busy I am at
work.
Thursday, July 18, 2013 Fair
Been to Day 3 of the Chinese course. For the first time I felt closer
to this foreigh language because the sentences got into my heard smoothly
in class this evening. At work almost decided what kind of Reading reports
to make for the third term. If I make them from scratch, it will be such
a hassle, so it is kind of eclectic this time.
Wednesday, July 17, 2013 Fair
At work invigilated one exam. One of the fellow English teachers was
absent because of illness. I am conderned about his condition. Began to
make the 3rd-term report for Reading.
Tuesday, July 16, 2013 Cloudy
Been to the sign language club and the Korean class. However, I am in
a rut. I am lacking in passion for both of them now. Passion, where does
it come from?
Monday, July 15, 2013 Cloudy, occasionally rainy.
So hot I took in lots of fluids yesterday. Hence diarrhea. Last night
slept with the electric fan on all night. It might be to blame as well.
Anyway I felt tired and out of energy this morning. Going jogging was out
of the question.
Saturday, July 13, 2013 Cloudy
What with the heat and humidity, I have trouble sleeping these days.
Even our two cats seem to have a poor appetite because of this hot and
humid weather. I just keep saying "Atsuwa natsui" half-jokingly.
Finished reading two library books and returned them just now.
Friday, July 12, 2013 Fair
Too muggy today. Humidity is impossible even at night. At work the 3rd-term
Communication English Treports are now almost ready. So are the OCTreports.
Thursday, July 11, 2013 Fair
Another hot and humid day! My wife went to two different Kobe art galleries
with her sister today, so I had to take care of her mother. I took two
hours off, coming home early. Went to the Chinese class, but I felt so
sleepy and tired in class. I did not eat my lunch. I worked hard while
at work, too. Got a midsummer gift from my friend in Kanagawa.
Wednesday, July 10, 2013 Fair
Another muggy day. I am no longer a full-time teacher. Correcting over
30 reports a day is too much for me, a re-emplyed teacher. Teaching in
the second period and taking care of Homeroom in the third period in addition
today. What a rip-off!
Tuesday, July 9, 2013 Fair
It is Tuesday, an off day, so just the sign language in the morning and
the Korean class in the afternoon. Kind of routine for the time being.
Bought supper for the two of us at the department as usual. Slow-jogged
in the morning and at night. It is just so hot and humid even at night.
Monday, July 8, 2013 Fair
Maybe the hottest day so far this summer. I kept sweating. Probably because
of the heat students' attendance was not good. Well, students these days
are not willing to learn by and large. Come to think of it, I am no exception.
Back home went jogging with my wife at night, but I felt tired while running,
so we quit in the middle of the jogging. Later drank cold beer, which brought
me back to life.
Sunday, July 7, 2013 Fair
It has been a hot summer day, and I worked the whole day as a STEP examiner
from 8:45 a.m. until around 4:00 p.m. I interviewed 53 examinees. Quite
a few. The test is getting tougher and more demanding on us examiners timewise
and workloadwise.
Saturday, July 6, 2013 Cloudy and windy, thundrering at night.
I have a sore throat. When I ate something before lunch. It hurt. I
have no fever. Tomorrow I must be a STEP examiner, though. Hope I can manage.
Our dishwasher broke down yesterday, requiring us to replace it as soon
as possible.
Friday, July 5, 2013 Cloudy
It has been so muggy today, typical of the rainy season. Still making
the 3rd-term Communication English Treports. Going to take some more time.
Got to make one for Reading as well. And also a test for OCT. Going to
be a busy summer vacation. Today's period two was OCT, but the attendance
was small and participation was so-so. This morning got to go to the dentist
but he said no problem, strangely enough. Am I given up on? Because I am
already an old man... Well, maybe thinking too much.
Thursday, July 4, 2013 Cloudy, occasionally rainy.
Coundn't go jogging because of rain. Too bad. Went to the Chinese class
for the first time in many days. This course is a series of ten sessions.
Today was day one. This teacher is really excellent. At work two meetings
to attend.
Wednesday, July 3, 2013 Cloudy, occasionally rainy.
It has been so hot and humid today. Toward the evening it rained cats
and dogs all of a sudden. A rather strong wind was blowing then, too. Helping
a homeroom student and a few students in the third period, I kept rather
busy. Checked over 10 reports. Also still in the process of making the
third-term Communication English Treports, which will take a long time.
Tuesday, July 2, 2013 Cloudy
At today's sign language club's meeting I signed there for the first
time in more than two years. So, I forgot one word. In the afternoon off
to the Korean language class. It is a long way there. My Korean was no
good today. In no mood to study. Well, next week I will be well prepared,
I guess.
Monday, July 1, 2013 Fair
Two classes to teach in the first and third periods. More than 20 reports
to correct. Two students to help with their English. Worked busily all
the time until the last minute at work.
