Left my lucn box at school for the first time. Talking with a colleague,
I forgot to put it in my bag. Three classes to take care of and over 20
reprots to check today. Couldn't do anything else. Tomorrow there're going
to be three meetings in all. Maybe it will take over four hours. What a
waste of time! The one who got sick the other is getting better.
Tuesday, June 29, 2010 Cloudy
Took a morning walk earlier than usual. I went out without my cap on.
The sun got hotter as I walked. Bought bread at the supermaket. Also okonomiyaki
later at the same place. I remebered that there was going to be a review
test in the Korean classroom while I was out for shopping. Back home I
quickly went over the pages I studied for the first half of this term.
Monday, June 28, 2010 Coudy and muggy.
I ran out of water while walking this morning. I perspired so much I
needed to drink a lot of water. I think I had better start walking earlier
from tomorrow on because it gets hot more quickly in summer. A morning
Korean study session. One English Tclass to teach. About 30 reports to
check. One of us English teachers collapsed, so the rest of us will have
to cooperate to make up for that.
Sunday, June 27, 2010 Cloudy and muggy.
No time to take a walk this morning. Reported for work early. First cleaned
the room as usual. Then according to my Mini Plan I worked in my own way.
Being in the room made me feel as I were taking a steam bath. It was like
a sauna. Made one OCThandout. Finished reading a book. A full day's work
really exhausted me. In the meantime, my Korean friend came to study English
with me.
Saturday, June 26, 2010 Rainy, occasionally cloudy.
Went to the usual English conversation school to enjoy chatting in English
for a couple of hours or so. There were There were eight people, including
our instructor and myself. On the way home shopped for something for lunch
at the usual supermarket. Spent this evening reading some book. I will
hit the sack, for tomorrow is a workday.
Friday, June 25, 2010 Cloudy, occasionally rariny.
Had an appointment with my dentist at 9:30 this morning. Advised to use
an interdental brush. I usullly use one daily, though. I will try use an
interdental brush more carefully in the future. At work taught three classes
in a row and helped with a certain club. Checked over 20 reports. Patrolled
the school premises after school. The place was a zoo-a bunch of desperados.
Decided to be an examiner for the coming STEP test anyway although it will
be held rather a long way away from home-accessible only by train for me.
Thursday, June 24, 2010 Fair
The glow of the evening was so beauriful today from the fifth floor of
the school building. The OCTexam is all set now, including the listening
comprehension test. Made one Reading handout ready. The club budget draft
is ready, too. This morning returned a few library books and borrowed four
or five. Getting up early in the morning, finished reading two library
books.
Wednesday, June 23, 2010 Cloudy
The one who slandered me the day before yesterday came over and apologized.
That's gibberish. Was he kidding then? My image of this one has changed
anyway. There was one who kept talking in the room. Maybe letting off steam
that way, but shooting the breeze where I work is nothing but a nuisance.
The OCTexam is to be printed tomorrow. The club budget draft is ready,
and so is the fire drill plan.
Tuesday, June 22, 2010 Cloudy
Theusual morning walk, the sign language club's weekly meeting, shopping
for bread at the supermarket, the Korean drama while eating lunch, the
Korean language school, and off to work.. At work made one handout, did
some Student Council treasurer work and club budget work. Worked in my
own way on my own. The fifth floor was deserted as usual when I left for
home.
Monday, June 21, 2010 Coudy and humid.
A Korean study session in the morning as usual. Then three classes to
teach in a row. Had a quick supper after answering two students' questions
about their reports. Then came somebody who took it out on me. He is too
hairsplitting and looked like somebody else then. Patrolled around the
gym and there was a meeting for 30 minutes or so. Checked around 30 reports.
The English teachers at this school are the busiest ones, teaching three
different subjects. This is not fair at all.
Sunday, June 20, 2010 Cloudy
Did the radio exercises listening to my i-Pod(There is a recording in
it.), took a walk in the late morning. and took a shower. It was a little
before noon that I started to make the first-term exam in OCT. It took
me more than three hours to finish making that. In the meantime, I ate
my lunch, too. Then took a short nap and did the Korean homework.
Saturday, June 19, 2010 Cloudy
Rested except that I checked in four library books and and checked out
five. Spent this afternoon summarizing each of the four books. Somebody
who is successful in any field seems to be fortunate enough to have a good
human network though which he or she is influenced favorably. Therefore,
meeting with people can determine one's course of life. This is true of
books, too.
Friday, June 18, 2010 Rainy
I got throughly wet this morning while walking. Although I asked my wife
for an umbrella on my cellphone, it was too late. No class to teach today,
but I had a lot of work to do-making a fire drill draft, checking some
reports, preparing English handouts, answering questions, patrolling the
school, etc. On the way home, because of an accident the train schedule
was upset and it took me double the usual time to get back home. My luck...
Thursday, June 17, 2010 Fair
I have made a miscalculation in the sheet I used in conference. I will
have to correct it. You should not calculate alone. You need somebody else
to check it. However, I did all that on my own this time. Well, to err
is human... What a cop-out! Just made one OCThandout. I have forgotten
a very simple fact about learning English. English is a "skill subject."
In order ot acquire a skill, you have to practice, practice, and practice.
Wedenesday, June 16, 2010 Cloudy and then fair.
Working on the Super Crossowrd in the morning, couldn't take a walk as
usual. At work, teaching three classes in a row, I was so forgetful today,
but anyway managed this ordeal. When I sat to breathe and eat supper, it
was around seven o'clock. What a tough day! On top of it, the weather was
quite hot and humid. Next week I have two hectic days like today.
Tuesday, June 15, 2010 Rainy
Learned some new words at today's sign language club meeting. In charge
was one of the members, an ex-high school teacher who signs best in this
region. However, I felt so sleepy from lack of sleep during that time.
This sleepiness did not leave me even when I went to the Korean classroom
in the afternoon. So, I took a nap toward the evening.
Monday, June 14, 2010 cloudy
Just one OCTclass to teach. This year's OCTleaves much to be desired
in terms of participation. Then I had to check dozens of reports for a
couple of hours. I had to patrol the school with some other colleagues,
too-cleaning and picking up cigarette butts with a pair of tongs. Made
a spread sheet for the club budget. Pretty complicated.
Sunday, June 13, 2010 Rained ion and off.
As soon as I got to work, I cleaned the room. I prepared an English Thanout.
Read a a couple of books and had an English study session with my Korean
friend after eating lunch. Today's joint HR was a soft volleyball tournament.
I refereed two games. I kind of enjoyed that. Then I did some more work
back up in the room and continued with the reading. The rainy season has
set in today.
Saturday, June 12, 2010 Fair
I was thinking of seeing the dermatologist toady, but on second thought
I decided not to. Instead I went to see some of Renoir's paintings. There
was an exhibition at Nakanoshima, Osaka. Some of the pictures were so vivid
I felt as I was taken back to the time when they were painted and those
persons were alive. Renoir must have been a very lucky painter with so
many friends to associate with.
Friday, June 11, 2010 Fair
Paroled after hours with some other colleagues-overtime work. On city
streets we see cigarette butts thrown away here and there. Schools are
just an extension of that nowadays. Schools used to be 'sacred places'
apart from the rest of the community. Things have changed totally. Although
I went to a dentist late last month, I may have to see some dentist again.
This time I may have to give up a couple of teeth. I brush my teeth regularly,
but accoring to my wife I lack spatial perception. She may be right.
Thursday, June 10, 2010 Fair
Every day I keep this online diary. I have been doing this for nearly
seven years. At first, come to think of it, quite a few students visted
this web page, but the Internet itself is not as popular now as it used
to be. Well, it may be time for me to reconsider this online diary-what
I do it for or its significance because I would like to make the most of
it. At work I did things in my own way on my own after having a Student
Council meeting.
Wednesday, June 9, 2010 Fair
My left knee still aches, but this morning I took a walk. Should I rest
for some time? Maybe I should. At work the volleyball matches for the daytime
section were held during the second and third periods. It took almost three
hours. Printed one Reading handout, and did some reading. Although I tried
to make an OCTexam, I could not think of any good questions for that.
Rain check.
Tuesday, June 8, 2010 Cloudy
While taking a walk as usual, the sky was threatening. At today's sign
language club weekly meeting, I was in charge of the so-called "Three
Words." I chose the following three words-"Your got me there,""I
am irritated," and "political party" in sign language. Taking
the first half-day off, went to the Korean class as uaual. Then off to
work. Just made one new handout and did the printing. Back home, my wife
looked tired. She went to bed right away. Our cat, however, gave me a big
welcome home. Cute kitty cat!
Monday, June 7, 2010 Cloudy
Because of the kneeaches, I could not walk the way I usually do. The
other day while working, I ran up and down the stairs. I went too far for
my age. I kind of got carried away. I will restrain myself for a while.
Worked my own way on my own almost as planned today. Took me some time
to accept what happened yesterday to me as I drove. Rules are rules. It
was my carelesslness. I will not cop out any more.
Sunday, June 6, 2010 Fair
Just my luck. I had the police issue a traffic ticket for not buckling
the sea belt. I have had a perfect driving record for 30 years or so. I
thought I had fastened the safety belt, but it was my waist pouch that
I mistook for the seat belt. At first I did not know what had happened
when a police officer whistled. I was unlucky. However, I cannot drive
for ever. I will have to give up driving sooner or later-maybe when I retire.
This incident reminded me of this fact. In the morning I did my daily routine.
Also cleaned the balcony and weeded the backyard. Checked out several library
books, too.
Saturday, June 5, 2010 Fair
Reflecting on this past week, I did a lot of things-Dad's memorial service
on Sunday, a Korean study session on Monday, the sign language club and
the Korean language class on Tuesday, taking some homeroom kids to Korea
Town on Wednesday, long, tedious conferences on Thursday, interview with
the bosses, the club, and patrol after school on Friday, and today's English
conversation session. I straightened up the dest a little this evening.
It was a mess.
Friday, June 4, 2010 Fair
Woke up later than usual again, not being able to do the radio exerciese
again. A full day. Two classes in a row. Checked dozens of reports. Interview
with the bosses. Helped with a club, signing. Prepared a handout. Patroled
after school. Trying to learn Chinese now, but pronuciation seems very,
very difficult. Maybe it will take a year or so get used to the basic sounds.
Thursday, June 3, 2010 Cloudy
Woke up too early this morning, so went back to bed again. Eventually
got up later than usual and could not do the radio exercises. Just took
a morning walk as usual. At work two conferences, which lasted for nearly
four hours in all. Fed up with these long meetings. Made an Englsih Thandout.
On the way home, did a little shopping at the usual supermarket-rose hip
tea and blueberry yoghurt sauce.
Wednesday, June 2, 2010 Fair
A year ago today my father passed away. I often think of him. At work
I taught three consecutive classes. In the fourth period I took some homeroon
students to Korea Town. Finished up the Super Crossword back at home. I
feel the need to improve the way I study English, Korean, and sign language.
It is no good studying them from force of habit. Then what should be done
about it? That is the problem.
Tuesday, June 1, 2010 Cloudy
I went to the sign language club this morning, just looking at other
members signing. They are very good. Returned two library books through
the book drop. Although I studied Korean at the Korean school, I did not
feel that my Korean was improving. I seem to be in a slump. What can I
do to cope with this situation?
