Personal History
Jim is a Japan-born and raised American-Canadian.
He loved music from an early age, appreciating classical, rock, jazz,
country and folk music over the years.
From his early lessons on the piano, Jim expanded his multi-instrumental skill to
include the guitar, bass, piano accordion, tin whistle,bodhran (Irish drum),
and cittern and bouzouki in the mandolin family.
Upon moving to Toronto, Canada after he graduated from university,
he was introduced to his first Irish music session, becoming a sought-after
acompanist and band member. He was a founder and performer at
which 15 years later still sponsors performances of Celtic and traditional artists.
Jim's specialties are the fiddle and piano accordion, on which he performs
a range of Irish, Scottish, French-Canadian, and original music.
He is a mainstay in Tokyo's Irish pub and session scene.
Besides his live music performances and recordings,
he is a much sought-after teacher, and also a professional, fully-trained piano tuner.
Besides his specialty dance music, he loves to accompany original and
traditional songs on acoustic instruments. Over the past ten years in Tokyo
he has been featured in several recordings of contemporary Japanese groups/ songwriters,
including UA, Lindberg, Akeboshi, and
Final Fantasy X & XI;
also award-winning FF-composer Nobuo Uematsu's highly acclaimed first solo-CD release in early 2004.
