At first glance, it seems that only by being forced to defend an idea against the doubts and contrasting views of others does one really discover the value of that idea, but I personally think it's one of the ways. The reasons are the following.
First of all, many people sturuggle to discover the new things such as theories or methods. For example, scientist may discover novel theory of lives. When they promulgate that theory in the public, at first many people may doubt that theory and they may not believe the new idea. But if the scientist continue to explain his theory again and again and defend the doubt, the scientist tend to consider much about his own theory. Also by contrasting view of others, the scientist may have the ablity to responsible for his or her theory and make other people understood the theory. In this way, they may notice the importance or value of the theory. Furthermore, if one contrast views of others, they can make the proper judging. For instance, it is often said that erudite persons tend to make the egoistic judgement because they believe their ability so much that they can't compare the idea with other's. And in this case, they must not be able to discover the value of the idea. So, to know the value, we need to take it into consideration. On the other hand, there seems to be other alternatives which must be considered. I think the value of the idea may sometimes be noticed by applying that idea. For instance, in the case of the new financial theory, the theory become to reveal its value by applying the theory in the real world. If the new financial theory become useed in the govenment and the people in that nation realize that the theory is useful, the economist who made that theory can feel that his or her work are accepted by many poeple. And that's the way a person can discover the value of the idea. Another example is the following. Some idea may be practiced in the field of volunteer. For exmple, famous religious leader, Mother Teresa, said to be the great spiritual leader of the people who were threaten by the poverty. She saved them by practicing her own idea that all people are needed to be loved by other people. At first, people could not understand the virtue of the theory, but as the time passes, they could notice what makes her idea distinctive. In short, because she associate her idea with the practices, not only her but also all the people in the world can discover the beauty of her way of thinking. And people are moved emotionally by these facts. As a result, people discover the value of the idea by applying in the real world as well as defend it against the doubts or contrasting views of others. It seems that there are some ways to notice the value of the idea. We can discern the idea properly through these ways. |

There are many people who achieved success in the world. Although people who conform to conventional practices and conventional ways of thinking may not have enough chances to achieve success, I personally think that people who follow the conventional ways also succeed in some cases. The reasons are the following.
First of all, every year many people are prized for his or her success in the world, such as Nobel Prize. Not only big prize such as Academy Awards, but also small prize are existed. For example, at the school, students who had the good scores in the exams may be awarded or students who showed the ability to lead the members of the club may be honored. These small prize may also affect people, and people tend to sturuggle to achieve success. Some of the prize may be offered for people who invent the up-to-date thinking way. In the case of the Nobel Prize, the scientists who invented the entirely new technology may be awarded. The nobel discoveries must be needed for getting the prize. It means that the scientists who can't investigate the new way may miss the chance to achieve success. Also, it is often the cases that the apparent success in the world is based on its nobelity. It means that people may notice something new rather than conventional thing when it comes to compare the achievements. Sometimes good achievements which are benefitial for us may be neglected if the achievements are obsolescent. For example, profesors who examine the ancient theory may not be noticed by people than profesors who researched the new technology. So, sometimes people who continue to pursue the conventional ways of thinking may not take the advantages. On the other hand, in some cases, however, people strictly follow the conventional practices and conventional ways of thinking may achieve success. For instance, traditional ceramic makers may be required to follow the conventional practices. It is said that now more and more traditional hand-made makers are threaten by the new technology. If the cheap dishes or cups are made by industry using the robots, the traditional makers may not receive the profit. But, at the same time, it is also predictable that some people prefer to use the traditional hand-made ones. In this case, clearly, people who follow the traditional ways also have the opportunities to achieve the success in his or her field. It is expected that in the near future, these conventionality may be recongnized by people and they will aware of their virtue. Furthemore, if their is no such conventionality pursuing people, the old good custom or culture may be forgotten. It is needed to keep these traditional ways and succeed to our descendants. Even if their profit is not bigger, their work may be associated with small success. As a result, all of these reasons, I can't agree with the sentence that no one can possibly achieve success in teh world by conforming to conventional practices and conventional ways of thinking. Although people who pursue the up-to-date ways may have more chances to success and may be noticed by many poeple in the world, people who follow the conventional way are also able to achieve the success. Especially in the following century, it is predicted that more people will notice that there is a unique virtue in the traditional way. If they notice that and bear it in mind, they can figure out there are some different ways for people to succeed in the world. |

The statememt above seems to be incontrovertial, at a glance. The argument that the Mozart School have well trained students, up-to-date professional eauipments, distinguished teachers and good records of the graduates, so that the Mozart School of Music should be the first choice, is well-prepared. However, there seems to be other alternatives that must be considered.
First of all, there is not enough information of the Mozart School of Music itself. For example, how old the school is, or how many students are in the school are the essential factors which have to be considered when it comes to choose the school. It is possible to say that most of students who plan to go to any school of music may care for the size of the school. If there are too many students in the Mozart School of Music, the number of students who are taught by one teacher may be inclease and so they may not be able to recieve the enough education during the school years. Also, if the school is relatively new, which means that it is not sure whether the school have the capacity to continue to provide the distinguished teachers or equipments. Second, although the author represents the Mozart School as good school based on the aspect that there are students who typically begin their training at a very young age, there is no relationship mentioned in the passage between the training period and the talented musician. So, it may happpen that the students who have never recieved musical training become reveal the talents after entering the music school. Third, the passage fails to explain about the quality of the teachers. What is the quality of the teacher? According to the passage, the faculity includes some of the most distinguished music teacherrs in the world, but we can't understand how they are different from other teachers, what kind of teachers or how many teachers the school have. As a result, although it appears to be well prepared, the argument is less logical because it lacks to take other altarnatives into consideration. To make the argument sounder, it must contain information about the specific of the school, such as size or age, as well as the quality of the teachers. If there is no such explanation, we can't convince that the Mozart School of Music is the first of any music students aware of its reputation. |

I partially agree with the idea that truly profound thinkers and highly creative artists are always out of step with their time and their society. The reasons are the following.
First of all, there are a lot of pundit or creative people in our world and they sometimes seems to be strange from the aspect of the ordinal people. For example, in the case of the great philosopher such as Platon or Niche, they seems to be different from us and we assume that they lived somewhere different from our life. Their great wisdom remains beyond the centuries. Although we respect these great thinkders, when it comes to their times, they might not be accepted by the people live at that time. Because their thoughts or ideas were somewhat out of step for the people, they might not be able to understand their thoughts properly. Furthermore, historically, great thinkers tended to be executed by the governments or the people. For example, Newton, who discovered the basic rule about the dinamics, had not been accepted for several years. Also scientists who are now thought to be the great teachers, were blamed by the government because of the religious reason. All of these incidents were related to the difference of the knowledge between scientists and ordinal people. Because we don't have enough knowledge about science or other philosophy, we can't fully understand them. In short, it is caused by our ignorance. Not only from the historical aspects, but also from our age, there are people who seem to be out of step. For instance, when we go to the art museium, we sometimes see the strange works. Sometimes, we can't understand how to see those works or how to associate with real world with the theme of the works. Especially, when we see the modern arts, because the artists create something nobel, and they introduce their innovative imaginations into the works, we may not pursue their indications. But highly creative artists are not always out of step with their time. As I wrote before, what it appears to be out of step is related to our ignorance. There are a lot of writers who are truly profound thinkers. Though at first their novels are difficult to understand, if we read them thoroughly again and again, we may notice the solution to know what the author want to say to their readers. As a result, at a glance, profound thinkers and highly creative artists are out of step with tehir time nad their society, it is not always true. The reason they are out of step is because we cannot fully understand them. It is often the cases that we finally notice that they are respectful and who are necessary for our society later. We need to struggle to know them by stadying or thinking. If we bear it in mind, in the long run, we can see them through different ways. It may be essential for us to take it into consideration rather than assume them out of step. |

At a glance, the idea above seems to be logical. The argument, which because the company that moved to that state pays twice as high salaries as Automate, the president of Automate needs to decide to pay the same amount of salaries as Sparks so as not to lose the workers, is well prepared. But it lacks several alternatives to be considered.
First of all, the president fails to mention the deffrences between two companies, Automate and Sparks. He should have compared the diffrence of the profits that company earned and also how each companies is estimated to grow in the future. For example, if the Automate made more profits than Sparks and is estimated to make futher inclese profits, the worker may choose to continue to work in the Automate because they are more likely to earn proper salaries and they do not need to worry about the bankrupt of the company. When it comes to consider these facts, the president also need to mention about the size of the company, how many workes work in each companies, how old the companies are, or what kind of job are offered by the company. Second, it lacks the explanation about the condition of the workers. The workers may choose the company according to the other facts such as child care service or holidays rather than salaries. So the president of Automate need to examine these facts. For example, if Automate provide enough service such as child care room for women workers and they are satisfied with these serivices, the workers may not leave to work for other company. Furthermore, it must take the future plans into consideration. Even if the company lose some experienced workers, they may be able to make the steady profits. For example, if the company plans to introduce the new robots into the assembly-line, there are no need to keep so many workers for assembly-line whom the company needs to pay twice the price of salaries. As a result, because the argument lacks to consider these other alternatives, it is not convincing. To make the argument more sound, it must contain the explanation about the comparence between two companies. Also the president of Automate needs to mention how the workers choose the company, for example, they may care for services for workers as well as the salaries. |

The argument above seems to be sound at a glance, but there are some alternatives that shold be considered. Althoguh the argument that the Batevia government should begin to regulate retail milk prices because the proce of mile at the local Excello Food Marke has increased dramatically regardless of the increase in number of deiry farms throughout the country is relatively well prepared, it has some weak points.
First of all, the survey which was taken by department of agriculture in Batevia was restricted and did not provide enough information. Though the reports inform us that the price of milk at the local Excello Food Market has increased from $1.50 to over $3.00 per gallon, it seems that this local market is not the only place where milk is sold. For example, it is possible to think that the price of the milk remains the same as that of 10 years ago in the small other markets though the price of milk at the Excello Food Market is increased. So, the survey must be done in all the markets throughout the country. Second, even if the number of dairy farms throughout teh country is 25 percent greater than it was 10 years before, it does not follow that the quantity of the milk produced is also greater. If it is true that the quantity of the milk produced remains the same, it is approprite that the price of the milk is increased. Third, the Batavia governments fails to consider about the consumers. Even if the price has increased, people in the Batavia may be satisfied with the milk produced in the local farms and its price now. In this case, the government may not need to regulate retail milk prices. Also, it is possible to consider that if the government prevents farmers from continuing to receive excessive profits, the farmers may lack the williness to produce the high quality of milk and as a result, the quality of the mild may be greatly degraded. Consumers may not expect such cases, and they will prefer buy the high quality of milk even if it is expensive. And suppose the quality of milk is degraded, consumers may not buy the local milk any more, and it may affect the local agriculture seriously. So all of these points, the Batavia governments fails to provide the convincing reports. To strengthen the argument, they shoud make a survey of the price of the milk all over the country and also a survey of the trend of consumers. They also take into consideration whether the regulating retail milk price affcts the quality of the local milk in the long run or not. If there is not such explanation, we cannot assume that such regulation is necessary for an adequate supply of milk for consumers. |

I agree with the idea that the human will always be superior to machines because machines are only tools of human minds. Although it seems that machines will have the comptetent to defeat the humans in the future, still the human may be always superior.
First of all, all machines are made by hand of human. And it means that the machines cannot be generated without the mind of human. Because the mind of human has depeloped in the evolotion, we are able to think about something and create new products, such as robots, cars, or computers. So, the machines may not be able to do beyond what a man created to do. What machines can do is strictly restricted by the scientist or expert who made the machines. It absolutely means that machines can do only what was programmed. Second, although it is often said that machines may be able to obtain the mind in the near future. In some points, it may be true because now more and more science and technology develops. But, in fact, the mind of the machines is also created by human. For example, even if machine can develop its mind like children, it must be only programmed development. Though it is difficult to assume the development of the mind of the michine, finally, it must be revealed by human because all of these minds are related to creative human mind. On the other hand, the news that the computer won the ches game with human was shockd us several years ago. Most of people in the world might be very astonished by the fact. But to think seriously, it is because computers superior to human in the calculation, not in the mind. They can calculate the process of the game without feeling. So it seems that it was only a kind of accident and not the proof of the superiority of machines. As a result, all of these reasons, I think it is false to say that machines are sometimes superior to human mind. At a glance, it is likely that machines will be able to conquer the world of human in the future, it must be the illusion. Especially, when we watch the SF movies, which represents the scene of machines world, we mistake the phenomenon. But, because machines are made by the mind of human, it cannot do beyond what can be done by creater. We alwas need to bear it in mind and think about the best way to make the best use of machines. It must be taken it consideration that the machines are existing for the providing the better and convenient life of human. |

The argument above seems to be logical at a glance. It argues that because the neighboring town of Willamsville suceeded in reducing the crime rate by introducing the curfew, the town of Dalton also should adopt the same kind of curfew. But, it does not contain the alternatives to be considered.
First of all, there are no information about the population of two towns especially, the numbers of youth under the age of 18. It seems that the number of the youth may greatly relate to the crime rate. For example, if the number of youth in Dalton is greater than that of Willamsville, it is likely that the same kind of the curfew may not be as useful as that of Williamsville. Furthermore, the kinds of the crime of the youth must be noted. Although it states that youth crime in Williamsville dropped by 27 percent during curfew hours, we can't know what kind of crime rate was reduced after the curfew. For example, it is possible to consider that although the number of the youth who take the drag may be reduced, the number of the youth who steal the cars may remain the same. In this case, we need to examine whether the number of the crime that affects seriously in our life is reduced or not. Furthermore, we cannot know from this argument that how long it took to reduce the crime rate by 27 percent. It is not likely that this kind of result was completed in only 1 week or a few weeks. It must show the process of indrodusing the curfew more precisely. Also, the argument should state what kind of punishment was introduced if the youth loiter or idle in public places after 10 p.m. in Willamsville. For example, if the punishment to the youth is serious, the effect of the curfew may be quickly appeard. Finally, the argument lacks the information about the place where the crime rate was the highest in Williamsville. For example, it is certain that the place where a lot of bars or game centers are lying may be more likely to have much crimes. So, the crime rate may be change accoring to the environment or the surrondings. As a result, all of these points, argument seems to be less convincing. To make the argument more logical, it must contains the inforamation about the numbers of the youth of both towns and the kinds of the crime. Also, it fails to argue the detail of the process of introducing the curfew in Willamsville. Without these explanations, we cannot compare the effect of the curfew between Williamsville and Dalton in the same way. |

I can't agree with the idea that the function of science is to reassure; the purpose of art si to upset. They must not be the true value. The reasons are the following.
First of all, when it comes to think about science, we associate science with development or improvement. In modern times, owing to the novel discovery in science and technology, we have got the better and convenient life. For example, a lot of new medecines are created in the medical reserch centers or medical companies, and it helps people to have the longevity. Also, it is said that it is not likely to be lethal when children catches the severe cold such as flu now. Another example is about the machine. We are surronunded by many machines in daily life such as TV, automobiles, or cell phones. All of these things are essential for us. But they might not be obtained 100 years ago. It means that as the increase of the scientific knowledge, we can have the ablitiy to apply these knowledges and create the new products which provide us convenient life. On the other hand, it is true that a part of the fuction of science lies in reassuring. For examle, in case of using mathematics, scientists may use the equations or the basic theory for proving the daily phenomenon, such as population increase or environmental effects. In that case, first scientists or other experts make the hypothesis, and then scientists use mathematical knwoledge for proving it. For instance, some people assume that the environment of the national park will be improved in the near future. Then the scientist may examine the lake and the soil in the park or animals which live in the park, and conclude that the assume is correct. It means that the use of science is for reassuring. But, still, it may be the part of scientific function. Majority of the function is based on the people's hope of having the good life. So, the function of science is not to reassure, but to create the new things and offer the better life. In addition, the purpose of art may not always be to upset. Althogh some astonishing arts may be created by upsetting, most of artists may relate to the arts because they want to express their feelings through producing the works, such as scluptures or pictures, and then appeal their feelings to others. For example, one man may be affected by the scence of refugee children and then take pictures to express what he feels. By having the opportunity to show the pictures to the people, he can communicate with other people or share the feelings with them. In this way, the arts may be used for expressing or communication rather than for upset. As a result, in my opinion, the function of science is to create or discover new things for providing the better life; the purpose of art is to share the feelings with other people. It must be the true values of them. And that's the key to find the proper way to understand science or art. |

I agree with the idea that students shold be encouraged to realize that mental agility and rhetorical skill must be accompanied by sincerity and the true conviction of their own beliefs. Recently, it is said that more and more students tend to focus on the study skill or getting reputation. They need to remember that there are more things to realize.
First of all, to success in the real world, students must have the ability to get along with other people such as boss or colleague in the company. And when it comes to this ability, they are required to have the mental agility. For example, it is necessary for them to know the movemnet of the mind of other people. If they cannot care for other people, they may not be able to get the good posision in the company because they lack the ability to lead the people or keep the people together. Now that it is getting difficult to get in touch with the neighbors in the society in Japan. For instance, it is said that it is often the case that we don't know what the people next to our house look like or how they live there. It means that children tend to lack the ability to tell the people. It seems that children often assume other's personality by judging the appearence. This may be because they don't have the enogh experiences to tell the personality or uniqueness of others. If they have not any chances to realize these facts, they may face with the difficulty in the future. So, to avid it, they need to struggle to have as much relationships as possible with other people and acquire the mental agility. Furthermore, the communication skill is also necessary. To live in the real life, students need to tell what they want to communicate. They have a lot of opportunities to tell their ideas to other people and convince them. For example, during the college students, they may be able to have the chance to take part in some research projects and they sum up their original idea and explain in front of other students or teachers. If the result of the research is based on entirely new ideas, a student may need to investigate the best way to make other people understood his or her idea. Also, at the same time, the statement must be logical and sound. Another example is the following. When we are in the company, we may face with the meeting. At the meeting, people who have the rhetorical skill may stand out and they may attract the boss. So these skills may tightly relate with the success in the real world. On the other hand, althogh these skills are essential, they must not be based on their longing for the reputation or the honor, but they must be based on the sincerit and the true conviction of their own beliefs. Even if a man has the good communication skill, if he pursues his own profits too much, he may not be able to be convince other people and colleague or other people around him must not regard him as the trustful person. As a result, the skill of conserning the mental aspect of other people and the rhetorical skill to convince the idea are both essential, and at the same time, they must be accompanied by sincerity and the true conviction of their own beliefs. If the studens mistake these facts and their acts do not based on their strong beliefs, they cannot be respected by other people. The students need to bear it in mind. That must be the key to success in the real world. |

It is often said that the treands of the youth represents the contemporary culture of that nation. But there are also other essential things to take into consideratioin. The reasons are the following.
First of all, recently, more and more young people tend to create the new image of the culture of the society. For example, people in Shibuya, which is one of the most biggest town in Japan and said to be the town for the youth, generate the trend among the high school students. Then people who live in other region pursue what is created in Shibuya. And it results in prevailing all over Japan. But, this phenomenon also means that more people in Japan are soaked in one trend and they imitated each other. It means that the young culture becomes monolithic. We need to notice that another culture behind the biggest culture created by the youth. Second, some contemporary cultures are generated by small group of people. The contemporary culture may not always created by large group of young people. For example, a custom of the small village may influence on the culture of that nation in the long run. It is often the case that basic and simple life style of the small villege is reviewed by many people and become behalf of the culture. Especially, because now that the society has become developed and convenient owing to the investigation of science and technology, we now focuse on more simple life. So it may be sometimes needed for us to focuse on the small group of ordinally peopel rather than large number of young people. Finally, contemporary culture may also be created by the older people. Because contemporary means up-to-date, it seems not to be appropriate to consider the older people. But after the time passed we may notice that older culture may have the great capacity to influence on the contemporary culture. For example, now people tend to have the longer life than before. It causes to increase the number of older people. So if the nation has more older people than younger people, it is proper to think that the culture of that nation must be more related to the culture of older people than that of youth. As a result, although at a glance, it seems that contemporary culture is represented by the culture of youth, it also includes other elements. We also keep an eye on the culture of small group of peopel or elder people. It may sometimes give us the new up-to-date information rather than out-of-date inforamation as usually considered. We need to bear it in mind and examine what influence recent culture of the society carefully. That must be the key to success for the most effective way to understand contempoarary culture. |

Althogh some people say education must serve an ulterior purpose and be directed toward clear goals, it may not be ideal of the education. The reasons are the followaing.
First of all, historically, many people invented the new things through their own curiosity or own sake. For example, in the case of making the airplane, a man decided to make it because he had the strong desire to fly into the sky. Though, for a long run, we can find out these discovies are very useful for other decendants like us, they didn't seem to be care for the ulterior purpose or clear goal. These discoveries may be generated not by the purpose but by the curiosity. If the people had to learn for the ulterior purpose, the great discoveries could not have been appeared. And this kind of tendency must be continued today. Second, we have many opportunities to learn many kinds of subjects during the young age. Recently, more and more schools tend to force students to learn what they need to learn for receiving a good score in the test. Teachers forget to teach students how interesting the subject is. And so the students can't know the beauty of science or mathematics. It means that this kind of education usurps the curiosity of the students. And if these conditions continue, no more innovative theories or research results may not be invested. On the other hand, some people may agree with the idea that learning for learning's sake is an outdated concept. For example, if we view from the aspect of the economy or the society, sometimes it is not the good idea to learn for learning's sake. If the society pursue the profit or the convenience, it may be the best way to educate for the ulterior purpose or the clear goals, rather than for the learning's sake, because it is the shortest way and it may not need much time. But, still, there is more advantage to learn for learning's sake. Even now, young people need to learn for the learning's sake. As a result, although sometime, it may true that education must serve an ulterior purpose and be directed toward clear goals, there is more benefit to learn for learning's sake. If people does not take it into consideration, education may be directed for only the purpose, and people, especially, young children may not be able to understand the beauty of the leaning. We need to keep it in mind. And that must be the key to success for the great new discovery. |

Althouh the argument above seems to be well prepared, there are some weak points. The argument that because of the higher-than-average temperatures in Sun City next winter, the people come to Sun City will increase and so it is wise to move the conference to a city less popular with winter tourists is sound, but there are other alternatives to be considered.
First of all, argument lacks the explanation about the sources which predict higher temperature next winter. For example, if there are much information, they does not include the proper information. So it may be appropriate to include the information about where these sourses come from. Also, it does not mention how long the hiher temperature will continue in the following winter. Or if there is much rain in the winter, though the city is famous for its high temperature and good weather, not so many numbers of people may not come to Sun City. Second, if there is a increase in temperature across the country, people may be interested in visiting not only Sun City but also other city. Because there is not information that support the argument that the public places would be more crowded, it is proper to argue the recent tendency for the tourism or how many people will reserve the hotels or transportation. Also, we can't know how many people will attend the conference or what age of people will come to the conference. Finally, the argument fails to argue the reason that it is needed to move the conference to another city which is less popular with winter tourists. For example, If the member of the people attend the conference are young, thay may be prefer to go to the popular place where they can do marine sports rather than go to the minor places, though Sun City may be crowded. Also, most of the members come to the conference may expect to do some sightseeing after the conference, so if the place where the conference is held is moved, they may be absent from the conference. On the other hand, some people may not mind whether the conference is took place in the crowded place or not. They only care for the theme of the conference and they may not mind the envirnment. As a result, all of these points, the argument have some weak points. To make the argument logical, it must contain the information about the sources of the weather forecast, or members of the people attend the conference. The argument above seems to be logical, at first glance. The arugument that a new head-mounted devide that measures eye movements rather than blood flow would undoubtedly provide better brain measurements because patients do not need to remain still is well prepared. But there are several points which make the argument unconvincing.
First of all, we can't fully understand the method of measure the activity of the brain by using the brain-scanning device. According to the passage, blood flows in the brain indicate how the brain is working, but it lacks the explanation about what part of the work of the brain has to be measured. For example, it measures the activity of the brain concerning to the emotion, such as anger or sadness, memory, thinking ,or perception. The devices have to be choosen properly owing to these aims of measurements. Second, although the device requires patients to remain completely still with their heads in teh scanning machine, which makes a very loud noise, the arugument does not include the reason that makes the brain-scanning device infarior to the head-mounted device. For example, it is possible to say that the state that the patients remain still does not relate to the blood flow. Moreover, although the new head-mounted devidce that measures eye movements are superior in the condition that the patients can move, it does not seem to be convincing. Because the eye movement and the blood flow seems to be completely different phenomenon, if there is no informaiton that expresses the relation between the eyemovement and the activity of the brain, we can't trust the argument. Also, if patients move around, the eye movement must be changed according to the movement. It is possible to think that the eye movement may be affected by the environment or the condition around the patients. As a result, the argument is not convincing all of these points. To make the argument more sound, it needs to explain the detail of the measurement by using the blood flow or the eye movement. Also, it may be appropriate to show the data of the patients who use brain-scanning device or eye movement, and then indicate the advantage of the head-mounted device with the data which represents more activity of the brain can been detected by the eye movement than the blood flow. If there is no such expression, the argument seems to be unsound. |

The argument above seems to be logical at a glance, but there are some weak points to make the argument stronger. With the ultrasound machines a technician can detect whether any plaque has thickened the walls of the main artery which caused the stroke. If all pharmacies offer this service, it help for clients to reduce the risk of stroke, and so it would cause a decrease in overall medical cost in Corpora seems to be sound. But still, it is needed to consider alternatives.
First of all, according to the passage, scans using the ultrasound machines typically fine that anywhere from 5 to 20 percent of clients have detectable plaque. But this number above seems to be too small to determine the effectivity. If only 5 percent of clients can be detected his or her plaque, clients may not want to use this service. Even if early detection helps to reduce the risk of stroke, the clients cannot trust the machine. Moreover, there is no explanation how much the cost is to receive the service. If the cost is not so inexpensive, the clients may not be willing to use the service. Also, in this case, even if the pharmacies offer this service, it is not determine whether it will cause a decrease in overall medical costs in Corpora. Also, if by using the service, it is possible to detect the thickened plaque, the argument also need to include how to inform the fact to the clients or hot wo encourage clients to consoult with their doctors. It seems to be very difficult question how to inform the risk of the desease to the clients. For example, some clients do not expect to have the result from the service which implies that there is a risk of storoke. In this case, not only the service which offers the detection of stroke, but also effective way for clients to consult with the doctors must be prepared in advance. It also needs to explain how to make important life-style changes to reduce the risk of having a stroke. The reaserchers lack these important features. As a result, although algument is well-presented, it forgets to mention about the cost of offering the detection using the ultrasound machines or the preparation of the service after the detection. If there is no such infomation, the argument cannot be sound. |

It is often the case that we assume we are confronting more complex and challenging problems than the problems faced by our predecessors. This assume is sometimes mistaken and after a long period we come to notice this illusion. But other time, this assume may not be able to be denied.
First of all, as the society develop dramatically, we have much more chances to confront the new descoveries or ideas. For example, about 100 years ago, the discovery of the printing might be the complex one at that time. That is to say, people at that time were astonished at the discovery and they respected the man who discovered the new printing device. But now, we think the way of printing is not so comptlicated and we can understand the process easily. It means that as the time passed, at a glance, the level of the new discovery seems to be higher and higher. Now, we assume that the discovery of making the new computer might be more challenging than the discovery of printing. But we may not be able to conclude which is more complex or not. Before thinking that way, we need to consider other aspects such as the time or the surroundings. As we grow up and absorb more knowledge and experience, we can notice the fact that we cannot determine which is more challenging, our problem or the discovery of predecessors. We experience a lot of difficulties and then we have opportunities to try new things. Then we notice, it is always challenging to confront the new thing. We cannot measure the difficulty of the problem simply. What make problems seem to be complex is not the quality or quantity, but only the individual assumption. On the other hand, in the mental aspect, sometimes, we may confront more difficult time and we cannot dispell the thought. For example, it is said that there are much more mental problems than ever before. Children grow up early without having enough time to consider about themselves. So it becomes the cause of the lack of identity. Some children cannot grow up in the mental aspect and so they can't adopt the society. Often they assumet that they are experiencing more bitter time than that of their parents. Because in modern society, there are plenty of convenient materials, the lifestyle of the family may be different one family to another. But on the other hand, it is said to be the competitive society. The childeren have to study hard to record the excellent scores. It may affect the children in the way that they cannot have fully time to think about their future or their personality. So it may be appropriate to consider children now is confronting more difficult problem that before. But, as I wrote before, it may be difficult to know whether it is true or not. Regardress of whether it is true or not, it can be said that this assume may not be dispele with increased knowledge and experience. These mental aspects which children experienced cannot be changed after them become adults. It is the issue of the period of the children. As a result, they are both cases, what people assume that the probems they confront are more complex and challnging is eventually dispelled with increased knowledge or experience, and the assume is not be dispelled. But in both cases, we need to take it into account that we cannot determine how difficult the problem is only by the comparison of the people from other era or living other time. |

Although sometime it is effective for politicians to yield to public opinion and abandon principle for the sake of compromise, it may not be seemed to be the ideal of politicians or politics. The reasons are the following.
First of all, politicians as well as great thinkers and great artists have their own principle. For example, great artists often tend to have the strong desire or ambitious. They try to express what they want to generate. They are soaked in producing their works and they don't mind the opinion of other people or other's works. In this way, historically, great works have been generated. It is also true in the case of great thinkers. It has been often cases that religious leaders were persecuted by the peopld in their early times. And after they tolerated these situations, finally they noticed that their thoughs were accepted by the people. These processes may be able to be applied in the case of politics. Great politicians often think the politics of that nation in the long run. They sometimes foresee the future. It is possible to say something which will be effective in the future may not always be accepted now. For example, if one politician decided to increase the tax of alcohol, most of people in the conuntry now may be objected to his policy. But if there is no such plan, in the near future, because of the increase of inexpensive alcohol, more and more people will become heavy drinkers and the rate of the heart disease may be increase. It means that the cost of the medicine may be dramatically increase. In this case, cleary, the politician or the government should have kept the basic policy regardless of the opinion of the public. On the other hand, some cases, the idea above may not be effective. Because unlike the artist, the politicians need to take the public opinion into consideration, they can't pursue their own principle only by themselves. It is crucial for the politicians to hear the public opinion. And also if there is the difference between the public opinion and the politician's policy, they must struggle to manifest their ideas and convince the public. They are asked to appeal their opinion as well as keep the coherent ideas. And if they cannot convince their opinions, it may be appropriate to think that the politicians need to yield to public opinion rather than adherent their principle for the sake of compromise. However, still, it does not seem to be the most effective aspects for the politicians to yield to public. If they continue to yield to public, there may not be so much chances to generate a new policy or an innovative ideas. To create the better government or pursue the ideal society, it is necessary to expect the existance of a great politician who can have the ability to be ambitious. As a result, although sometimes it is necessary for politicians to yield the public opinion and abandon principle for the sake of compromise, it is not the only effective condition of most effective politician. They are asked to have the potential to keep their own creative idea and make the public convincing about the idea. And ofcourse, at the same time, they must bear it in mind that they need to know the public opoinions and comapre them with their principle. If they can take it into consideration and find the best way, they may be able to be the most effective political leaders. |

In recent years, as the society develops rapidly and our lives become more and more convenient, it promotes the progress of the material and wellcy of the society. By this phenomenon, some time, it provides the good effection to other countries, other time, it provides the negative effection rather than positive one.
First of all, the material progress and well-being may not always relate with each other. It is possible that only the materialism is prevailing in one society and on the other hand, the country becomes poor in the aspect of spiritual world. For example, according to the historical record, it is often the cases that as the society began to pursue the materialism, that nation became weakened because the people couldn't enjoy the spiritual world. The success of one country may often rely on the spiritual progress rather than teh material progress. And if too much material progress continues, finally the nation become poor both in the spiritual aspects and in the aspects of people's daily lives. Also, we need to bear in mind that this materialism may affect not only own country but also other contries. When one country pursue the materialism, it is inevitable for other country to relate with. For example, each countryies may relate with each other through the import or the export. If one country begins mass production, other country may pursue the same way because there is an inevitable economic effection betweent the countries. That is to say, when one country produces one specific products such as cars or TVs, it needs to import the materials to produce the car from other country. Or that country asks other countries to produce a numbers of the cars because of the low wage and then import the complete products to own country. Also it is possible to export the products to other countries that produce the basic parts of the cars. In this way, more and more countries may bound to another. It means that one country's material progress may generate the other countries's material progress. But at this time, we need to remember that the following aspects. if the car, in this case, were sold well, the country which began to sell the cars as well as other countries may be affluent. On the other hand, if one country fails to complete one of the processes of producing the car or selling the car, it also affects other countries. It means that only one of the country's dipression may generate the dipression of all over the world. If so, a horrible result may occurre. To avoid this problem, the countries need to be careful for the connection between the countries as well as the material progress. Also we need to take it consideration that too much materialism may cause to reasult in the poverty in the spiritual facet as well as in the real world. As a result, it is possible to say that the material progress and well-being of one country are sometimes connected to the material progress and well-being of all toerh countries, it also affects in the unexpected way. What we need to do now is to seek the best way to save both materal progress and spiritual progress. |

The argument that the number of people who were left homeless is much higher in East Sacunda than in West Sacunda, and so it suggests that building owners in East Sacunda were less likely to modify their buildings so as to bring them up to the 1985 code standards, seems to be logical. But there are some weak points to be sound. The reasons are the following.
First of all, although the nuber of people who were left homeless iwas much higher in East Sacunda, it mat have been the result of the difference of the distance from the center of the earthquake. If the center of the earthquake was near the East Sacunda city, the disaster may have been bigger than that of West Sacunda. In this case, cleary, we can't compare the number of buildings which meet the 1985 code standards from the point of lost buildings. Second, although the argument compares the number of people who lost their homes, it may not be logical. For example, the number of people in one house may be different from one city to another. If there were much larger houses in East Sacunda than West Sacunda, although the number of the broken house were both same, the number of people who were left homeless may be larger in East Sacunda than in West Sacunda. Thirdly, there is no explanation about the 1985 code standards in the argument, and so we can't fully understand about it. For example, it is possible to consider that the 1985 code standards may not be effective to prevent damage in an earthquake. If so, the number of the broken building may not relate with this standards. It means that the argument is not logical. Finally, the argument fails to mention that the different quality of the land between East Sacunda and West Sacunda. For example, perhaps, the land of the East Sacunda may be frail to the earthquake. In this case, the differences between the buildings may not so relate with the number of the homeless people. As a result, of all these points, the argument is less logical. To make the argument more logical, it needs to mention that the specific of the earthquake and the land of 2 cities. Also it needs to include the explanation about the number of broken buildings in both these cities. If there is no such statements, it is not convincing. |

The argument seems to be well prepared, but there are several weak points. The arugument that, The Treasury is correct to begin saving money by reducing the costly printing of paper dollars because a surbey indicates that the Pine Tree dollar is appealing to many people, seems to be well reasoned, but still fails to become logical.
First of all, according to the passage, the Pine Tree dollar is far more appealing than other coins: 76 percent of respondents own the coin. But, this survey may not mean the populality of Pine Tree. Perhaps, because the Pine Tree was newly issued most of people had it regardless of its appealing. Furthermore, although 62 percent of those owning multiple coins consider it so attractive that they are stil saving rather than speding the most recent coin to come into their possesion, this tendency may not continue, rather it may be over in short period. Also, according to the argument, it says that neither the Presidental dollar coin, introduced 11 years ago, nor the Eagle dollar coin, introduced 3 years ago, remained in circulation long. So it may be possible to assume that althouh the Pine Tree dollar is appealing to people now, it will not be able to remain just like other coins. Second, if the number of the Pine Tree dollar issued in that year was different from that of other year, we can't compare with other coins. For example, if the number issued in the year was much smaller, people prefer to save it because they think it has the value. Thirdly, although the Teasury think that introducing a dollar coin is a good idea, it may not the good way in the long run. For exapmle, if more and more people save money after issuing the Pine Tree dollar, the currency of the money may be inactivated. If so, the economy may be deteriolated because of the inactivating currency of the dollar. So there may be more harmful effects than advantage to save money. As a result, although the argument seems to be logical, in the point that the number of the Pine Tree issued in the year and the long period of effects are uncertain, it lacks to be sound. To meke this sentence more strongthen, it needs to take them into consideration. |

It seems that the argument is well prepared, but there are some uncertain points to be convincing. The points are the following.
First of all, according to the article, because Scandinavian were not exploring or emigrating to northern Wisconsin in the fourteenth century, the stone which was found in northern Wisconsin is not a genuine artifact of medieval Scandinavian culture. But there is no specific evidence to support this explanation. For example, if there was a trade between Scandinavian and people in northern Wisconsin, it might be possible to transport the stone to northern Wisconsin. In this case, although Scandinavian people may not be living in that area, it is possible for the stone to be unearthed in that area. Second, the article sais that recent analysis proves that the stone had been buried in the spot where it was found for no more than 100 years. But, there is no explanation about what kind of analysis was used for this discovery. That is to say, what kind of methods were used to measure the time when the stone was exsisted in the surface. Because of the lack of this information, we can't judge the accuracy of the analysis. Furthermore, although the community near the discovery site was home to a group of people who had formed a club to study medieval Scandinavian culture, it may not relate with the fact that the stone is not genuine. There is no connection between this club and the stone. Even if the group of people are interested in that stone, they may only analysis the stone and not involve in the hoax. Finally, accoring to the passage, it sais that the stone is not a genuine artifact of medieval Scandinavian culture, but there is no informaion about the culture of Scandinavian people. Also, we can't know what kind of things were written in the stone. To analyse the data more carefully, we need to know the culture of Scandinavian and connect the culture with the discovery of the stone. As a result, because of these lack of information, the argument is unconvincing. To make the argument more sonded, it needs to contain more specific explanations about such as the method of analysis or the culture of Scandinavian people. |

According to the medical newsletter, the first group of patients, treated by Dr. Newland, a doctor who specializes in sports medicine, took antibotics regularly throughout their treatment. And the doctors found out the recuperation time was quicker than usual. The second group of patients, treated by Dr. Alton, a gerneral physician, were given sugar pills. Although they received the placebo, the doctors found out their average recuperation time was not significantly reduced. At a glance, the arguments are seemed to be well prepared, but there are several unsounded points. The reasons are the following.
First of all, although the doctors compare the two groups of patients, there are no explanation about the specific characteristics of the patients. For example, it may be necessary to explain about the age of patients or numbers of people in one group, because the recuperation time must be related with age or condition of the patients. Second, the first group and the second group were treated by different doctor. The first group was treated by a doctor who specializes in sports medicine, on the other hand, second group was treated by a doctor who is a general physician. It means that we can't compare these groups at the same time. People may feel more relax when they are treated by a doctor who is familiar with their disease. So in this case, clealy, first group of people may be treated better in the point of mental aspect. It is said that some disease is sereously related with mind. Thus, we can't judge the difference from this newsletter. Furtermore, by the study of the second group, the doctors found out the recuperation time of the patients was not significantly reduced though they received the sugar pills. It means that the secondly pill, the placebo did not affect the rate of the recovery. Although the first group who received the real pill recovered more quickly, it may not enough to proove the effect of secondary infections. As a result, all of these points, the argument have some uncertain points. To make this argument more convincing, the doctors need to explain about the specific characteristics of these two groups. Also they need to consider the effect of two different doctors. If it lacks these information, the argument may not be fully convincing. |

Although the argument seems to be well prepared, there are several weak points. The reasons are the following.
First of all, according to the setence, it argues that some accounts found both in Asia and Europe mention a dimming of the sun and extremely cold temperatures. But, in this argument, we can not compare how cold they were at that time. Because the scale of measuring the temperature of the mid-sixth century may be different from that of now. Thus it may not be possible to determine that historical records show the signifucant coldness. Second, although it explains that the large meteorite colliding with Earth may not be the cause of the chenge of the temperature, it is not fully convincing. For example, if the sun shined storongly when the meteorite collided with Earth, a sudden bright brush of light might not be observed clearly. Or if the meteorite collided with the desert area of Earth where none of the people was living, the bright brush of light might not be reported. So if they are true, we can't deny the possibility of the meteorite as one of the causes. Furthermore, although it argues that some suriving Asian historical records of the time mention a loud boom, it may not be related with volcanic eruption. For exapmple, if it was volcanic eruption, it may be possible to determine which mountain erupted by using the geological experiment. Also, other phenomenon is possible to cause the loud boom. A sudden falling of the huge rock may be the cause. As a result, the argument needs to further explanations. To determine if the loud boom was the result of volcanic action, the scientists need to examine another possibilities or show the exact proof of volcanic eruption. If there is no such arguments, we may not be able to conclude that the cooling was caused by a volcanic eruption. |

Although the argument seems to be well-prepared, there are several weak points. The reasons are the following.
First of all, the result of reseach into the languageand leginds of the Innu is not convincing. According to the result of the research, there are words for two different kinds of bears. But there is no data that how many kinds of bears had been living at that time. For example, 1000 years ago, there may be more than 2 kinds of bears. In this case, it may not be certain what kind of bear the word mean. Also, although these words show different characteristics to the two kinds of bears, but it is not clear that what characteristics are applied. If the characteristic is determined by only size of the bear, it may not be impossible to determine whether the word means the black bear or grizzly bear. Because the difference between black bear and grizzly bear is said to be size, it is not certain that the words exactly mean these two bears. Furthermore, it is not exaplained that if there was a change or a moving of these bears. For example, it is possible that although both grizzly bears and black bears were living in the eastern Canadian province of Labrador 1000 years ago, grizzly bear moved to the western provinces 500 years ago. In this case, the explorer7s account may not be accurate. Finally, a nineteenth-century explorer's account of haveig statled and narrowly escaped from a grizzy bear deep in the woods in labrador is not convincing. Because there is no explanation of how he told the grizzly bear from the black bear. For example, if he met the bear at night, he might not be able to discern the bear clearly. Also, it might be difficult to determine the characteristic of the bear in short time. As a result, because of all of these points, the argument is not fully convincing. To make the argument more clear, it must include the explanation of further characteristics of bears and specific meaning of two words. Also, it may be necessary to argue if the living place of these bears have been changing or not. If there is the argument of how 19th-century explorer discerned the bear, it may be more convincing. |

The argument seems to be appropriate, but there are some weak points to be convincing. The reasons are the following.
First of all, in this sentence, it compares mayor of Lake City with Plainsville. Mayor Yu succeeded to do the job as a mayor by promoting the improvement of environmental issues. Although the prohibition of automobile traffic in all Plainsville parks was effective, to close all Lake City parks to automobile traffic may not be effecteive. For example, if the economy of Lake City have been supported by the sightseeing of Lake City, to clase the parks means to exculde the people who visit Lake City for sightseeing. And then the economy of this city would be deteriorate. In this case, they need to consider not only environmental effect, but also economoc effect. Furthermore, if the people in Plainsville have the job in the field of sightseeing, they may not be able to get enough salary when the park of Lake City is closed. It implies that they will not be assurred the quality of life. Thus, although people are interested in environmental issue such as recycling, they may not hope to close the parks. TIda McAllister need to investigate the further opinions of the citizens in Lake City. Finally, Yu decided to prohibit automobile traffic in all parks because she heard the opinion of small group of concerned citizens. It seems that she was succeeded not only because she promoted the activity to solve the environmental problems, but also because she accepted the opinion of her citizens. Thus, to become this argument convincing, Mayor Mc Allister need to collect the opinion from her citizens. As a result, to make this argument more convincing, it is required to imply the economic state or other influence of Lake City and compare the advantage and disadvantage of closing the parks with these econmic issues. Also it needs the information how the citizen in Lake City consider about these issues. If there is no these information, it can't be determined if Mc Allister's success would be guaranteed. |

I partially agree with the idea that practicality is now our great idol, which all powers and talents must serve. But, also I think there is a tendency to resume the value of unpractical things. The reasons are the following.
First of all, in recent society, more and more peple tend to rely on the convenient machinery or technology, such as automobile and computer. Because we are living in too convenient society, we may believe that practicality is one of the most important features in our society. If there is no computer, we can't live any longer, since most of our daily life are supported by the work of the computers. So we can't neglect the influence of the practicality. Moreover, in our society, people who have the ability to provide the practical things or thoughts may become important. For example, the company which can produce the convenient washing machine may be profitable. On the other hand, people who are still making the products by means of the process which was used by our ancestors may be forgotten. There are many people who are making something not by using machines but by their own hands. But now we tend to ignore these people because we too much believe the goodnesss of practical society. On the other hand, there is another tendency to resume the virtue of unpractical world. For example, the works of the art cannot be able to say practical, but some people notice the virtue of the art works. Although art may not be practical things, it provides us the warmth or emotional intelligence. Then we can find out not only practical things but also unpractical things may be crucial in our world. Some people may already recognize these facts. As a result, although it is believed that practicality is now our great idol and anything that is not obviously practical has little value in today's world, there are still opposite tendency to believe the virtue of unpractical things. Now that we can get the much better life, it is the time to notice these facts. We need to bear in mind that there are both advantages and disadvantages in practical world and unpractical world. It is crucial for us to preserve not only practical things but also unpractical ones. That may be the key to success in the real world. |

I don't agree with the idea that the past is no predictor of the future. It is said that history repeats itself. I think this means that the past predicts some aspects of the future. The reasons are the followings.
First of all, there are many annals in our society. For example, there are records of the war. The most famous war is World War 2, but there were a lot of kinds of conflicts long before that war. About 400 years ago, it was the time of conflicts in Japan. Many soldiers were fighting to expand their domain and gain the profit from the crops. Many men were dead during these war. Although this kind of war affected people's life and provide harmful aspects, as I said before, we find out history repeats itself. And we also find out the annals of these conflicts show that the conflicts may continue to occurre in our modern times. Furthermore, in the aspect of science, we can be able ot learn a lot from the discovery of science. For example, Einstain discoverd the famous enery equation and explained many kinds of phenomenon in the universe. And these discovery contributed to invent the new theory even now. Part of our daily phenomenon may be explained by the theory based on his discovery. Then we need to remember that he predicted that his discovery or other scientific facts affect in many kinds of aspects in the future both as a good way or as a bad way. For example, he thought that some of the discovery contributed to provide the people to better and convenient life style. On the other hand, like Nobel, he thought that some of the discovery damaged our common sense in the future. For example, the invension of the bomb may cause to give rise the result of most feaful killing. So we can learn some of wise men already predicted the future in some ways. As a result, all of these reasons, I think the past may somewhat predict the future. We need to keep in mind that history tells us many kind of aspects both bad effects and good effects. It is cucial for us to learn from the past. This may come to the result that we can build the more peaceful world such as no war in the nations. If we choose the useful information from the past and make the most use of these predictions, it may effect our lifestyle in a good way. And that's the key to success in the real world. |

I partially agree with the idea that although most people think that their deeply held values are the result of rational chioce, reasons often has little to do with the way people form values. But sometimes these reasons relate to the way people form values. The reasons are the following.
First of all, one't value may be determind by his or her ordinal behavior. For example, at school, when students have meeting at the club, some students may have the role of leader and cooperate with other students. In this way, we can know other students's personality and we may be able to know the specific competence which we don't have. This means that they have their values which other people don't acquire. And one of the important facts of this is that they are not aware of their behaviors that determine their values. Furthermore, although sometimes we have the chance to make a choice, it must not be always related with one's value. For example, we may have to decide whether go to the school or work in the society to support their family. Sometimes they need to deny their will because of the family occasion or other surroundings. In this case, the choce may be little do with the value because the way must be determined not only by his or her thoughts but also the surroundings. At a glance, it seems that the decision is dependent only on their will, but most of cases, it is also based on other causes which we can't aware. On the other hand, it may be occurred that one's rational choice has to do with the way he or har forms value. For example, in the lifespan, we may be exposed to the situation that make a choce only by themselves, such as finding their partners. In these cases, we consider a lot by themselves and make a decision. They need to learn how to make a rational choice or how his or her personality affects others. Through these processes, one of the values may be formed. As a result, there are both cases, the rational choices relate with the way people form values, or there is no relation between the choice and the value. The crucial fact is that we need to know that our personality, surrounding people or other objects may be somewhat related with our values. Also all the people in the world have their specific values that other people don't have, that is to say, one's value is the only one. We have to bear it in mind and pursue their original values. |

I agree with the idea that the media and society in general mistakenly expect an individual to speak for a particular group, whether or not that individual truly represents the views of the entire group. Although sometimes an individual represents the image of particular group, it is often the case to be mistaken by the media or society. The reasons are the following.
First of all, there are many chances for media to examine the up-to-date information by interviewing people at the street in big city. For example, at Shibuya, where is one of the most biggest city in Tokyo, and it is said to be the symbol of young people. Many TV companies or magazine publishers tend to interview young people at Shibuya. They search for particular young people, such as who is wearing an excentric clothes or who is thought to be strange by the adult. By this way, the media expects to cleate the particular image of Shibuya. They think young people in Shibuya are all the same. Also they tend to collect the abnormal aspects of young people on purpose. But in fact, not all the young people in Shibuya are pursuing same fashion. In this case, appearently, the media missunderstand the situation. Furthermore, society also sometimes ignor the important fact. For example, the decision of the government sometimes represents the particular person't opinion. Small number of people may approve to increase his tax in one city. But it may not represents the opinion of entire city. Thus sometimes other people may have the feeling of disapproval and they can't trust the government. It is crucial for government to understand these facts. On the other hand, in very few cases, all the people of some group may have the same kind of opoinions or idea. For example, most of the people in our city disapprove of doing the death penalty. In this case, the person who is interviewed by TV director may represent the entire thoughts of our city. But still, these cases seem to be rarely occurred. As a result, we can say in many times the media or government mistakenly understand the difference between an individual opinion and entire group opinions. They need to take it into consideration and have the ability to discern the discrimination. And we also need to bear in mind and choose the right information from media. It is crucial for us to keep their own oliginality or personality and make the best use of correct information. |

Although creating an appealing image has become more important in contemporary society, it may not always the best way. The reasons are the following.
First of all, there are a lot of images in the societies. For example, we can see wide variety of advertisement in daily life, such as advertisement in the magazine, newspaper, or TV. Sometimes we judge something through the advertisement. Thus it can be said that advertisement are part of our daily life recently. Advertisements include appealing images to attract people who watch them. For instance, when one company wants to sell the new toy for children, there may create the TV commercial to attract children. In the commercial, the toy, such as the model of robot may move such as human and the children in the commercial may act like he is very surprised at the movement of the toy. But in fact, when we get the toy, we may notice the TV commercial provides us exaggerated images. Some children may be disappointed because they know that the toy does not move exactly as the image which they watch through TV. In this case, too much appealing images may cause to the disappointment of children. Another example is related with the job or company. If one company does not show the fact that the company is in bad state, rather it continues to appeal the customers that the company would keep fine, the economic state of the company will be even worse and finally it may be bankrupted. To avoid these situation, the company should show the reality or truth to the society and abolish the appealing images. We also need to have the ability to find out the reality or truth behind that images to get the success. On the other hand, sometime, an appealing image may bemore important than reality or trugh behind the image. For example, an actor or an actress may need to continue to create an appealing images. Because actor or actress is the job which provides people dream, courage, or happiness, they may need to act not as their real images. That is to say, they may need to put aside their own personality or their own feeling in the daily life. When one actor play a role of doctor in the play, they must look like a doctor during the play and so he thinks about what is the image of the doctor or what kinds of act may match for doctor. If the act contains his personal life or feeling, we may not enjoy his play and the images we have may be broken down. So, in this case, creating an appealing images may be more important. As a result, there are both situations whether appealing image or the reality or truth behind that image is important. We need to choose them according to the situation. Also, we need to bear in mind that it is necessary for us to discern the real images hiddern by the appealing images. That must be one of the crucial factors live in this society. |

I agree with the idea that people in positions of power are most effective when they exercise caution and restraint in the use of the power. Although sometimes exercising their own power may inevitable, it is not the best or only way to use his potential effectively. Also they need to take another important things into consideration. The reasons are following.
First of all, there are many people in positions of power in the society. For example, most of politicians can change the law or determine the rule of the society. Policemen also tend to have the power in the society. They occasionally show too much power and restrict people. Though they do not have the rights to domain people, they may be soaked with his position. In this case, clealy, they forget the most important things, using too much power may cause to devaluate himself. Another example is at the school. There is the relationship between students and teachers at school. Sometime teachers may be lose their temper and scold their students at classroom but they need to keep in mind that they shold not show their power as the adult to children. If teachers forget it, students may not trust teachers and the relationship may be broken. On the other hand, there are people who take care of the way to exercise power. For example, Mother Teresa was a woman who know the virtue of restraint in the use of the power. Although she was the leader of the community in the poorest region in India. She never commanded people, rather, she chose to support for the weak people. She didn't use the power but she gave her love to peole. Because of these her acts, she had been respected by people all over the world and after her death, she is believed to be one of the virtuous persons. As a result, we can know to lead people, it is not the best way to dominate people, but to think about people and eercise caution, or restraint in the use of the power may be effective. People will follow these kinds of good leader. We need to bear it in mind and control how to deal with the hish position or enormous power. That may be the key to success in the real world. |

It seems to be true that reform is seldom brought about by people who are concerned with their own reputation and social standing. But, sometimes, it may not be the case. There are several situations about the reform.
First of all, most of the cases, reform is brought about by people who are really in earnest about reforming a government, an educational system, or any other institution. For example, at school, there may be the student who is willing to change the rules of that school on behalf of the students. This kind of students may be altruistic and always care for surroundings. They feel like reforming the school system because he tends to hope for better school life for all of the students. Another example is this. There are people in the small community who work for improvement of the crime rate. For instance, in one community, mothers or businessmen keep an eye for children to prevent them from involving the crime. However they are busy, they tend to make it for rule because they heve the strong desire to make the community more attractive. Although it is the small reform, these small act may influence wide range of our life. On the other hand, in some cases, people who care for their own reputation may be involved in the reform. For example, some politicians tend to reform the government using their political power. Then they become the leader of the government. Although they promulgate that they promise us better life and wealth, we may find out that what they said were lie. Because they pursue their own profits, they use the attractive expression to deceive us. But, sometime, the reform is completed and we can't stop their behavior. As a result, as I described above, there are both cases about the reform, that is to say, to have the strong desire to change the world, or to pursue their own benefit. We need to keep it in mind and examine the situation carefully. It is crucial for us to be able to discern these differences. |

Although it appears that the suggestion written in the memo is incontrovertial, there are some unconvincing points.
First of all, the economic minister compares the farming of Abundia with that of own country. Although a newly developed variety of seed contributed to make more profits in Abundia, the same things may not occurre in Paucia. For example, if the components of the land is differnt from Paucia to Abundia, some kinds of seed may not be able to grow because of the nutrition. Especially, new developed seed seems to be adopted in the land of Abundia, and not in Paucia. In this case, the augument is not convincing. Second, according to the passage, it sais that Abundia produced 80 percent more rice than previous year. But it does not mention what kinds of seed contributed to this increase of the crop. For example, only one kind of newly developed seed may be useful. Also, if the weather of that year was fine and it rained enough, the amounts of the prodocts may increase. If the weather of the previousyear was bad and it had been cold, the amounts of the products may decrease. That is to say, the weather or other conditions sorrounding the farm may influence the amounts of the products. Third, the sentences sais that if they cultivate new variety of rice, it encourages for farmers to earn more income. But to introduce the new systems and cultivate more variety of seed, it may be necessary to employ more farmers. If it needs more tasks to produce new rice, the income of the farmers may not increase. Furthermore, the economic minister sais that high yields of rice would also improve Paucia's balance of trade. However, because the yields of Abundia, a neighborhood country, is also increasing, it may be difficult to improve the balance of trade. All of these reasons, the augument is not convincing enough. It also needs to refer to other elements, such as the land condition, kinds of seed, the way to cultivate the new rice. If these elements are included in the passage, it may become more convincing. |

It cannot be denied that the increase in knowledge is forcing people to specialize. But, it does not mean the distance between fields of specialization has become so vast that specialists in different area are rarely able to influence each other. The reasons are following.
First of all, owing to the new development in the society, a lot of new supecial subjects are generated. For example, in the area of science, there are many kinds of reseach programs such as genetic science, agricultural science, neuroscience, and computer science. At a glance, all of these reseach projects are independent each other. It is true that some scientists or researchers continue to do their work independently and pursue the specialization. But now that the base of scientific problems are constructed, it is said that it is essential for researchers to share their knowledge to apply the science. In order to examine the mechanism of brain, it is crutial for doctors, biologists, or phycologists to cooperate each other. If phycologists repudiate to get along with other researchers such as doctors or biologists, although they can determine the mental aspects of the brain, they may not be able to determine which area of the brain ralates with the emotion or how the mind works. It implies that if one researcher keeps adherent, he or she may miss the oportunity to know the new information and cannot get in touch with the latest techniques. Second, it is now popular that one person learns two areas of study in one's life, that is to say, people take the double major. For example, one famous scientist decided to learn the law after he became older. Although he had the special knowledge of science and everyone respected him, he didn't choose to continue his work, rather he chose to try to learn the new matther. In this way, finaly he could relate scientific knowledge with law. Sometimes two different kinds of major meet each other and create the novel area of study and that is the innovation of learning. All of these reasons, although the increase in knowledge is forcing people to specialize, it does not mean the distance between different area of specialists cannot influence each other. Rather, if the two areas of specialists cooperate with each other and share their knowledge, the new aspect of the research may appear, or the novel idea will be created. By this way, the real specialists may be generated in the future among the childrean. We have to bear it mind. That's the key to success in the special field. |

"The goal of politics should not be the pursuit of an ideal, but rather the search for common ground and reasonable consensus."
The idea above seems to be appropriate. Although sometimes, to pursue an ideal may be crutial, it must not be the goal. The reasons are following. First of all, when it comes to politics, we associate government with society or public. It is often said that the government does not tend to care about their people in Japan. The politicians decide the basic plan by themselves and they don't take our opinions into consideration. Because the politicians dream of the ideal government and they absorb in it too much, sometimes it can't match the common sense of the society. For example, recently, government decided to spend the money for building the new highway. Although the politicians thought to build the highway in the rural area may be a good idea for people living there, the people did not think that way. Because there was not so many people in the rural area, it was no use building the new high way. Rather, people thought money shold be spent for the child care or helth care. In this case, appearently, the politicians missed the judge, and they shold have heard the common opinions. Furthermore, if the politicians continue the pursuit of an ideal, the even worse sisuation may occurre. For example, the distance between the government and the society may be longer and longer. At a glance, it is not the big problem, but it will affect the nation in the future. If the government and the society were divided each other, the people may not be able to trust their government. When the people lose the interest of the politics, it means the collapse of that nation. On the other hand, in some cases, it is essential to long for ideal politics. For example, if one young man desire the ideal society for people and become a politician, we may be able to expect him to lead the nation. But even though, it must not be the goal, we should not forget the most important factor for politics, that is to say, politics is for people. As a result, although to pursue the ideal of politics sometimes work well, the goal does not lie in the ideal but in the search for common groung and reasonable consensus. The politics must connect the people and the society. We need to bear it in mind and that's the key to aim of the politics. |

The new piano will be brought to our house tomorrow. I am very looking forward to playing the new piano. Since the former piano have been broken, I havn't practiced it. So I am a little concerned about this fact. Now, I plan to practice the new music which had been used in the TV program. This TV program was made in Korea and it became very popular in Japan. I heard that many people in Japan now tend to study Korean and travel Korea to visit the place where the TV program was made. It's very funny phenomenon, I think.
Anyway, playing the new piano will be a lot of fun. I wish I could play it like CD. It requires for me to practice again and again. My aim is to complete the new text book I bought. Although the new piano is very old, it must look very cute and match the living room. I can't help waiting for coming. |

"Competition is ultimately more beneficial than detrimental to society."
We experienced many competitions in our life. Although sometimes competition is beneficial, it also contains disadvantages. First of all, there are many chances to compete against each other. For example, when we take an entrance examination for highschool for university, we compete with many other students. While we are studying hard to be admitted to the schools, we nervous how much other students are studying during the day or how much score they earn in the pre-examination. Another example is the school activities. At my highschool, for instance, there were choral contests and speech contests each year. We competed against each other in class. It seems that all of these competitions include disadvantages as well as beneficial aspects. In the case of examination, we competed against other students about the test score. Because we tend to worry about the average score too much, sometime it causes the problem of stress. It is said that many children in Japan are exhausted in the competition at the school. They can't enjoy their school life because there is a rampant competition. Even worse, some children begin to repudiate going to school or they become ill. Appearently, in this case, the competition bring a unexpected aspects to us. On the other hand, sometimes competition works in the beneficial way. In the case of choral contest, for example, we may be able to have a chance to cooperate with other students. To win the contest, we may struggle to improve the harmoney. Even if one class was not organized before the class, after the contest, we notice that the bond between the students in the class becomes tighten. Through the practices for the contest, we may be aware of the personalities of other students in the class and we may be able to care about other students. Regardless of the result of the contest, they experienced the good reletaionship. In this case, the competences give us the opportunity to get along with our neighbor. These experiences may be useful after they graduate from school and live in the real society. Furthermore, if there are 2 companies that produces the same kind of products, such as TV or CD, in one city, they compete aginst each other to gain the profits. They need to improve their quality of the products or keep the law price of the products to win the competition and get more consumers. If there is no competition at all in the society, the quality of the products may be poor and the prices of them become rise. Thus the competition works in the beneficial way between the companies. As a result, competition has both beneficial and detrimental aspects. At one time, it teaches us the importance to cooperate with other people, or it activates the economical activities in the society, but on the other hand, it results the issue that people become to experience the stress because of the too much competitions. We need to keep these in mind and consider the best way to make the most use of the competitions which exists in our real world. |

"Moderation in all things" is often heard. But it seems that this way of thinking makes both benefit and shortage. Some time, rather, "Moderation in most things" may be much better. However, this is true not only because many areas of human concern require or at least proit from intense focus but also there may be several reasons.
First of all, it is incontrovertial that "Moderation in all things" sometimes bring benefit to us. For example, when we meet the person whom we have never met, it is better to behave moderately because it may be the good way to keep the relationship between the stranger and us. Another example is that when we talk to someone who is not so familiar, we may need to talk moderately. If we talk to him or her derect way, they may be overwhelmed. Thus sometimes it is better to keep moderate way. On the other hand, there are also shortage to behave moderately. In Japan, for example, it is said that "Moderation in all things" is crucial for good manner. But this kind of customs nag Japanese when they go abroad. Because most of foreigner do not have these costoms, they may be surprised that Japanse tend not to speak directly and use euphemism. It is often said that Japanese are not good at speaking their opinion in the class or public. These coustoms are not evil at all when we are in Japan because it is explained as beauty, but when it comes to go abroad, it is likely that it become the shortage. Thus it seems that "Moderation in most things" is good advice. However it is not only because many areas of human concern require or at least profit from intense focus. There are also another reasons. For example, the person who always keeps doing moderately may be exhausted since he can't show their real personality or he can't tell their direct opinion to other people. If we always disguese themselves, he may take pain in life and feel exhausted. Furthermore, on the other hand, if our friends speak to us moderate way, we may be worried about our relationship between them and us or even annoyed because we noticed they do not mind openly in front of us. As a result, athough "Moderation in all things" may be a good way of thinking at one time, it may become both advantage and disadvantage. Thus "Moderation in most things" is rather well-made advice, rather than "Moderation in allthings". When it comes to think about the relationship between people, we sometimes need to keep in mind that it is essential to know both moderate way and direct way. It is key to success in the real relationship in daily life. |

Owing to the new science thechnology, we can acsess to new information very easily. It is true that the effects on life-long learning can be positive, but it may not be the only way.
First of all, now that we have a computer, we can get information whenever we need through the internet. For example, when we want to learn foreign language, we use the computer and search the sites which give us the information about the foreign language. Sometime, we can get the chips of learning other language, or we can know which is the best text book now. Moreover, we can search the teacher through the internet and communicate the teacher on the computer, or exchange E-mail each other. Another example is that we can take the lecture of the college through the internet. Even if we live in Japan, we can take the class of the University in America. Because we need not go to the university on foot or by train, older people who have difficulty in walking can take the class. It is said that older peole, who could not go to the university when they were young because of the war, feel like studying at the university now. Thus, it is the good opportunity for them to study what they expected to learn. However, life-long learning is not the only positive effedct by the access to new information. If we want to buy something, such as TV, CD player, sofa, or piano, we tend to have the expectation to buy which is said to be the best. But of course, a lot of compiting companies produce same kind of products at the same time. We compare the products and think about which is the best one, or which is meet for price. In this case, for instance, the HP in which povide the opinions of the consumers may be useful. We can know the real voices about the products and which is thought to be the best. Also, if we look up the HP of the companies, we can know when the new model of the products will be sold. In this way, people can access to new information and we may be able to be wise customers. As a result, although it is certain that the life-long learning is one of the positive effect by the access to new information, it must not be the only one. We can be wise customers as I said before or even we may be able to possess the ability to discern the good products from useless one useing new information. Thus to make the most use of information may be the key to success in the world. |

Recently, we can watch many kind of things, such as TV, movie, or screen of computer. Through these things, we get many kinds of information. But there seem to be some unexpecting effects.
Science and technology make it possible to watch 3D images and we can watch even virtual images. For example, at the movie theatre, children often have a chance to watch the movie about Science Fiction. Although children may enjoy watching the movie and learn something from the movie, there seems to be some problems. It is said that children confuse the real world with virtual world. Sometimes, it may cause the problem of unability to concentlate on something or to consider something. It means that they are less able to focus clearly and extensively on a single issue. Furthermore, there are plenty of TV games in the recent society. These TV games include the game of the war or killing the characters. People sometimes lose their normal way of thinking. Even sometimes they cannot be back from the world of TV games. That is to say, it has the same effect as visual images of SF movie. Second, we can get a lot of information from the screen of personal computer. For example, we are able to access the internet very easily. Owing the internet, we can send the messsage all over the world at the same time, or get many kinds of information so easily. Also, we can watch a lot of pictures through the internet. But, on the other hand, there are useless information or even malicious information. Because there is plenty of information, we sometimes miss the select of correct images, or we cannot compare them. In these cases, we are confused of visual images. As a result, it may true that so much visual images in conteemporary society has the effect of making people less able to focus clealy and extensively on a single issue over a long period time. But, there are some ways to improve this problem. For example, if we learn to select the correct images in the early stage of the life, we must not lose teh ability to focus on something. Thus, we need to acquire the sense to tell right visual images from uncorrect ones. |

Although the sentences in the magazine give us useful information, it seems to include some uncertain points. The reasons are the follwing.
First of all, it is doughtful that taking a daily pill containing luceen provides significantly better vision of distant obfects than taking other nutritional supplement. If the person who took the pill containing luceen is the child, on the other hand the person who took the other pill is the older person, we cannnot compare the result between them. In this case, the child may have a better vision of distant objects regardless of taking the pill because it is said that chilren tend to have better vision than the adults. Also, the effects of the pill must be different from person to person. Even, the result may be different according to the weather condition, mental condition, physical condition, or temperature. So we can't trust the result easily. We need to know how the experiment was done. Second, even if few inhabitants of the island of Bonopia wear eyeglasses or other corrective lenses, it does not directly mean that the luceen supplements have effects with better vision. We can't compare the people in the island of Bonopia with another people like in our country. For example, people who studied hard or who like to watch TV or play TV games tend to have worse vision because they always view the objcts too colsely. On the other hand, it may happen that the people in the island of Bonopia may not view the objects so closely because of their life style. For instance, the people in Africe tend to have a better vision because they need to discern the animals in far distance so that they have to get the food. It means that whether people have the good vision or not may derive from their life style or daily life in the long run. So taking the luceen may not relate to the better vision. All of these reasons, the article in the magazine contains some uncertain ideas. We can't conclude that taking a daily pill helps to improve the vision problem. In other words, we can't judge from this article that taking the luceen relate to the better vision. |

Although the sentences include proper recommendation, there seem to be some uncertain points. The reasons are following.
First of all, it compares the times of reunions between Appleby College and Edelston College. According to the passage, it says that Appleby College holds class reunions every five years, on the other hand, Edelston College holds annual reunions for all classes. But, we can't associate with each other because there must be several differences between two colleges. For example, the number of the students in the classes may not be the same. If the numbers of the students in Edelston College is small, it would be easy to hold class reunions every years. On the other hand, if the Appleby College holds much more students than Edelston College, it would be difficult to hold annual reunions just as the Edelston College because of the preparation or money. Also, treating alumni students to banquets, lectures and student performances may not be effective in the case of the Appleby College if the number of the students is too large. Suppose there are too many people at the class reunion, we can't enjoy the lectures or student performances. Apparently, in this case, distribute the year of holding the class reunions according to the class may be effective. Furthermore, alumni donations are not always given shortly after the reunions. We can consider another way to have the chances for the college to receive the donations. For example, the school festival or sending the letter that tells students the need of the alumni donations may be more effective. Thus annual reunions may not be the only way to receive more donations. Of all these reasons, the passage includes some weak arguments. Annual reunions for all classes and treating alumni students to banquets, lectures and student performances, which is thought to enhance their loyalty to the college and their willingness to donate money, may not be the best way for Appleby College. |

| Merry X'mas!! Now, I decided to begin practicing the AWA. Although the textbook includes some proper arguments, it seems to be weak to support the idea. The reasons are following. First of all, according to the textbook, it appears that the water present would have evaporated when the collisions of space rocks occurred. But it is not the collect opinion because there is no information whether the space rocks include the water. They may not include the water molecule at all. If so, the argument must not make sense. Second, the textbook says that as the planet approached its current size, it held gases and water vapor around the size, but the textbook does not mention how large the gravitation needs to hold them. Thus we can't measure whether it is strong enough or not. Third, it may not the proper idea that a comet striking Earth would have vaporized because comets are largely ice made up of frozen water and gases. The manuscript needs to connect the relationship between vaporized comet and frozen water and gases. It seems strange the comet became evaporated only because it includes water or gases. Furthermore, it lacks the explanation why the water vapor fell as rain on the cooled and solidified surface of Earth. It must include the sentence how the water vapor change its formation, also how the Earth's surface was cooled and solidified. Also it needs to explain what if Earth's surface remained hot. All of these reasons, the draft textbook manuscript has some weak points to support the idea. It is not effective enough to conclude that the water in Earth's oceans must have originated from comets. It must include the explanation about the process of forming the planet, or how the comet would have vaporized. Also it must support the idea how the water changes its formation into rainfall particles or how the Earth's surface was cooled or solidified. |

| There was a town festival today. And so I went to the center of the city and saw the festival. Unfortunately, I went to there so late that I couldn't see it enough. Anyway, after that I visited the shopping center to look around and eat some cakes. Because I caught a cold, I haven't felt better all day. Recently, I stay up late and I feel tired. I think I have to rest more or refresh myself. It's essential to keep the good health condition and concentlate on something. I plan to study biochemistry, cel and molecular biology till 12/13, then I will begin to study for general test of GRE. To prepare for general test, I will learn some specific words for V and write about the issue topic and argument toppic everyday. But, because the final examination will be held in January, I will study for that exam during January. After the exam I plan to study math in English. My aim is to take the test during February. |

| According to an editorial, it said that the 55 mph limit shold be restored because limiting its spped was of no use. But, this idea seems to include incorrect process of thinking. First of al, we can't know how long the survey have been made after changing the speed. If the survey lasted for a short time, we can't measure the exact number of the accident and we can't compare to the number of accident before the change. For example, the season may be related with accident. In winter, the number of the accident must increase because of the frozen road. Also, because drivers are familiar with the speed of 55 mph, it may be difficult to limit the speed of 45 mph in a short time. So survey must be continued at least for 1 year. Another misunderstanding is that we can't compare the two contries, Prunty country and Butler country, so easily. The number of the people may be different from the other. Also the number of people who have the cars or use the car may be quite different. In this case, we can't compare the number of the accident between two countries. So although increasing lane widths and resurfacing rough roads improved the safety of Butler County, it may not improve that of Prunty country. For example, if the population of the Butler country is half as large as that of Prunty county, the small improvement of the number of the accident which happened in Prunty county may greatly influence the tortal number of the accidnt. So we can't apply the sentence, which says 25 percent fewer reported accidents in Butler county, to the case of Prunty county. Furthermore, we can't know what kind of accidents are included in the number. For examle, drinking or sleeping may be the cause of some accident, or some accidents might occurred because of the breaks of the engine. In these cases, the speed does not relate with the cause of the accident. Thus we must take it into consideration. As a result, of all reasons, we need to judge the survey whether it includes the exact information. We have to bear it in mind. |

Happy Halloween!!
We celebrated Halloween today. We ate home-made pumpkin pie and a lot of sweets also decolated the house. It was fun. Also I could see trick-or-treater wearing cute Halloween costumes. If I were a small child, I could have dressed myself. Especially, the pumpkin is my most favorite character. I made the pumpkin mask when I was a elementary school student. I had another happy thing. I received the greeting card from Megan. She sent me a very cute Halloween animation card. I felt very happy. |

| Time passes so quickly. Tomorrow is the last day of October. And it is the day of Halloween. It's one of my most favorite events in the year. But unfortunately, it seems that this event is not so popular in Japan. Although I could see a lot of sweets sold at the store, there are few people who decolate their house or wear the costumes. I wish I could enjoy Halloween like America in Japan. Anyway, I got the cute cookie of Halloween. Also I got a lot of goods of pumpkin. I hope to see the trick-or-treat tomorrow(^o^*/ |

"The most effective way to understand contemporary culture is to analyze the trends of its youth."
I don't agree with the idea that the most effective way to understand contemporary culture is to analyze the trends of its youth. Although part of contemporary culture seems to be shown by the trends of youth, there are more important things to keep in mind. First of all, we must not forget the culture of adult, especially, elder people. Even if there culture is not so clear than that of youth, I think there must include some essential aspects of our contemporary culture. For example, elder people in Japan begin to learn foreign langage. It is popular to take the lesson of foreign language among elder people in Japan now. And then, the youth also tends to imitate their behavior and began to study foreign language. I think it is one of the good trends made by the elder people. Furthermore, the culture of young people may be sometimes confused by other people. For example, at Shibuya, where is the most biggest city of young people in Japan, a few young people wear the strange cloghes or make up their face like a panda. And the adult seem to think it is the trend among young people. But in my opinion, it is not the contemporary culture of the youth because it is made by only a few young people. So, we should not make the one group of " the youth ". On the other hand, there are a lot of cultures made by young people now. For example, the youth tend to care their health and teke the pills or eat the organic food. Another example is cell phone. More and more young people begin to use the cell phone at any time to communicate each other. And these trends become popular all over Japan. We can learn a lot about comtemporary culture from these trends. But still, I think it's not the most effective way to understnd the contemporary culutre. As a result, I consider to understnd the adult culture as well as the youth culture may important for us. We have to keep a keen eye on our contemporary culture and think about what is our comtemporary culture at that time. We need to see the wide variety of cultures and take these aspects into consideration. |

Anyway, I could change it. At the end of the call, the man said, " Good night!". It was very funny for me because it was in the early morning. I forgot that it was late evening in East coast of America at that time. As soon as I finished the call, I went to school. I felt a little relieved. From now on, I will study Biology hard. |

The following appeared in a memo from the mayor of the town of West Egg.
"Two years ago, our consultants predicted that West Egg's landfill, which is used for garbage disposal, would be completely filled within five years. During the past two years, however, town residents have been recycling twice as much aluminum and paper as they did in previous years. Next month the amount of material recycled should further increase, since charges for garbage pickup will double. Furthermore, over ninety percent of the respondents to a recent survey said that they would do more recycling in the future. Because of our residents' strong commitment to recycling, the available space in our landfill should last for considerably longer than predicted." First of all, according to the memo, it is said that the town residents have been recycling twice as much aluminum and paper as they did in previous years. But it does not exactly mean it causes the decrease of the garbage because it may happen that people consume more and more plastics than before. Even if the amount of the garbage of aluminum or paper decreases, another garbage such as furnitures, plastic bags, bins, or other cans may incresase. Second, although charges for garbage pickup will be double, it may not relate with increasing of recycling. Because some poeple think it troublesome to recycle something. Also the double of the charge may not appeal to people so much. Third, the survey of the residents may not be reliable. For example, it is only the survey of people who responded, that is to say, there is no survey who did not respond the question. Although ninety percent of the people showed that they will recycle more, people who did not respond to the survey may think they will not recycle at all. Furthermore, we cannot see how many residents were included in this survey. If the number is smaller than the total population of residents, the survey must not be reliable. As a result, because of these points, the memo may have some uncertain aspects. It also needs to take all these points into consideration. Thus the prediction that the avilable space in landfill may last more than 5 years may not be sure. Rather than, it may also occur that the space will be filled within 5 years by the garbage. |

All nations should help support the development of a global university designed to engage students in the process of solving the world's most persistent social problems."
I agree with the idea that all nations should help support the development of a global university. There are a lot of problems occuring in the world. I think young generations may contribute to solve these problems. First of all, we are faceing with the environmental problems, such as global warming, decreasing of tropical rain forests and acid rain. All these problems come from the result of human activity. To improve our standard of living, we have been invented many useful materials and products. But at the same time, we threatened the earth by building factories or consuming a lot of natural resources. If we do not face with these problems, the earth will be in danger of destruction. Now that we can get the better living, we need to think about the solution of the problems. At this point I think the students may contribute to give a new idea. Young generations tend to have a new way of thinking and so they may be able to create the solution to save our earth. Furthermore, these problems have to be solved by the global scale because the problems may relate with all parts of the world. We need to consider these problems with people from all over the world. And so a global university may provide the courses which students from different kinds of nations can attend. In these courses, a student may be able to discuss the issue with many foreign students. The student from different country may have different kind of idea. For exaple, one student who come from the developing country may think both saving the earth and building a new factory for themselves are important in his country, on the other hand one student who come from developed country may think to solve the world problem is the most important. In this case, they need to find out the best way to agree each other. I think the students can share the idea with other students who come from different countries at the global university. As a result, the students may be able to contribute to solve the social problems which is occuring in the world now. They may have the ability to create the new idea. Also global university may provide students the opportunity to share the idea with foreign students. And that's the key to saving our world. |

I am concerned about it when I choose the major in the near future. I sometimes think about I don't have enough knowledge of studying biology. Now my aim is to increase my knowledge of molecular cell biology. I plan to take the subject test of GRE in Spring.

I prefer to follow the customs of the new contry. Reasons are the following.
First of all, if I go to another country, I would like to know the custom of the country. And I think it is essential for us to follow the customs of that country to know the cultures. For example, I went to America last year by myself and I experienced the home-staying. At first, I didn't know how to live in America, but as the time past, I learned the way of the host mother's and imitated her living style. In this way, I could get along with the family members in America and also I could know the American culture, such as living style, food, and communication. Furthermore, people in the new country may feel easy to accept the foreigners if the foreigners try to follow the customs. For example, in my case, I met German students at school and I could know she was challenging to do things in Japanese way. As I know her feeling, I felt like introducing Japanese caulture to her and I decided to help her. In this way, people in the new country may help people who follow the customs of that country rather than people who keep their own customs. On the other hand, there are some poeple who preferto keep their own customs. I think these people may feel confident of their own cultures and they woule like to show their cultures. Although I think to keep their own customs may be important when we are in our own country, we need to change our way when we go to another country. To introduce own custom is one thing, but to keep own customs in new country is quite another. If we do not accept the new custom, we may not be accepted by people in new country because we seem to be unfriendly. As a result, I think it is better to follow the customs of the new country when we move to another country. It makes us easy to absorb the new culture and we may be able to get along with the people in the new country. I think that's the key to success in another country. |

There are a lot of people who are attracted to dangerous sports or other dangerous activities recently. I personally think the reasons why people do dangerous sports are the following.
First of all, we can refresh ourselves by doing dangerous sports or activities. For example, if I were to do sky diving, at first, I may feel horrible but as the time gets by I feel confident and I would like to try. And after I finish the sky diving, I may feel fresh air. And it also provides us beautiful landscape which might not be seen from the window of the house or the air plane. We may experience something completely new for us. I think that's one of the reasons why people attracted to dangerous sports. Furthermore, if I try sky diving with other people I can share the feeling with other people. We may exchange words after the diving. Also one who was not so sociable might not be able to try the new things and talk with the new people. But after the diving, he may become confident and have the willingness to try new things and speak to people who were not familiar with. As a result, I consider people are attracted to dangerous sports because they can change their mind by trying something new. Also they may be able to experience what cannot go through in other ways. After doing dangerous sports or activities, we might have a willingness to try. |

I support the plan of building a new high school. There are a lot of hich schools in our town. But I personaly think new hich school provide us many advantages.
First of all, more and more families tend to move our town recently. Because our town is new town, there are a lot of young people. I think the number of the high school is shortage and it is necessary to build a new high school to distriute these students. And then it would fill the demand of the high school and education. Second, if it were not a new high school, the number of the students in one classroom may increase. And so teachers have to teach many students. In my opinion, the proper number of the students in one class might be 20 to 30 students. If the number exceeds, I think it is difficult for teacher to teach the students sufficiently. For example, in the mathematics class, some students may learn math easily, others may feel difficulty in learning the same section. And so teacher may have to care for each student and make children study eaqually. Thus I think it is essential to limit the number of the students at the high school. Finally, if the new high school are built, much more students may come to our town from outside the town. It means that we can have a chance to meet not only people in our town but also people who live outside the town. We can promote the friendship between one town and the other town. I think it is one of the advantages we can enjoy. As a result, I would like to support the building of the new high school in our town. It may supply the proper number of high scool to meet the number of the students. And it also provides us the chances to get along with the people outside the town. In this way, I consider we can enjoy a lot of advantages. |

Today is birthday and wedding day. We went for lunch to celebrate them¡ú
¡¡If I can invent something new, I will invent a new food. I will describe the specific of this new food. First of all, a new food contain all the nutritions which is necessary for us. It is said that we can't make 20 amino acids, which is vital for us to live, now. So my first aim is to contain all these nutritions in the new food. It contains vitamins as well as amino acids. Now there are a lot of vitamins sold at the drug store, but I think it is likely a medicine and anything but the food. So I would like to make the food which include the nutritions and we can survive by eating it. Recently, we tend to eat more and more foods which are made from natural resourses, such as fishes or fruits. But if we ate all of them, we would not be able to live any more. So we have to prepare for the shortage of natural resourses. Second the new food must be produced constantly. We can produce that food whatever the climate is and whatever the condition of the land is. Now, we can't get enough rice if the cold climate continues in summer. On the other hand, if it were new food I invented, we can get enough food for living constantly. There are a lot of people who are suffering form poverty now. They have the problem of getting food and think about how they can eat something everyday. Thus I want to make new food for those people. We can distribute the food and everyone may not get into the troble for food. But of course, I think there may occure some problem, too, for example, the population increase or some second effect of this new food. So I think I have to make the new invention taking long time and think about a lot of effects. But still I think new invention may be helpful for people all over the world. As a result, I would like to invent a new food which contain multi nutritions and also which can be produced constantly. In this way, I can affect the good effect in the world. I would like to do research for not only rich people but also poor people. I think that's the main point of this invention. |

I don't agree that progress is always good. I personally think sometimes progress may not be good for us. The reasons are following.
First of all, we often try to make a progress in the society. For example, we build tall buildings in the city for living and we can get a convenient life. For example, at Roppongi Hils, there are both houses and shopping center, we can enjoy the convenient life style. In this way, we improve our life by constructing a new building or recreation center. But on the other hand, as we build a lot of new buildings for houses, we cut the tree for the land. It may cause the distinction of the wild animals. For example, I could see a lot of squirrels 10 years before when I moved to in our town, but now I could not see squirrels at all. More we improve our life, more wild animals may be in danger. Second, now we have inventeted new technology, we forget the old things. For example, the traditional life style or coustom may be forgotten. Young people don't know the old story of ancestors. It is said that hand-made products are not accepted by young people. But I think these old customs should not be denied. If we denied all of them, we can't learn the wisdom of our ancestors. For instance, in the process of making a ceramic pot, there may be a lot of wisdoms to make the pot. If we don't learn these methods we can't succeed in making new products. So sometime we have to think about the old behavior and learn them. It may be important for us to use both old knowledge and new knowledge. As a result, I consider not all the progress is good for us. Sometime it may cause the danger of other living creatures, or we may forget the old good customs. So we have to consider disadvantages of progress for us as well as advantages. We need to bear it in mind and long for what is thought to be good progress. |

I don't agree with the idea that only people who earn a lot of money are successful. There are many people who are said to be successful in the world, but I think not all of those people earn a lot of money.
First of all, although many people who succeed in business tend to earn money, but I think it is just a part of the result. In my opinion, a man who is respected by many people is the most successful people. For example, I think Mother Teresa is one of the successful people in the world. She spent most of her life for people who suffer from poverty. Although she didn't earn money, she was thought to be one of the greatest persons in the world. After her death, still now, we thought about her as a great person. I think she taught us the basic idea that we need to consider the poor people and do what I can do now. As I see her, she is the successful person as spiritual points. She grabed the hearts of people all over the world. Second, I know the man who is thought to gain the success without earning money. Mr Tanaka, who won the novel prize this year, is an ordinal business man in Japan. He worked hard just like other business men but he invented a new scientific method and won the prize. The interesting point is although he won the prize, he refused to get higher job at his company. He remained his position and keep working as ordinal businessman. It means that although he succeeded in the research, he refused to earn much money. I think he is a smart person at this point. As a result, I consider not only people who earn a lot of money are successful. We often think people who become rich may be successful, but I consider in the long run people who are respected by many people are real successful men. We have to bear it mind and long for real success. |

I consider the dining room is the most important room in a house. In many cases, there are dining room, kitchen, children's room, and living room in a house. But I personally ghink dining room is most important among them.
First of all, we go to the dining room whenever we eat something. Usually, we use the dining room at breakfast, lunch and dinner. So we may use it at least 3 times a day. And we eat lunch with our family. I think we tend to meet each most frequently in the dining room. If we miss the time to eat breakfast or dinner at the dining room, we may not be able to talk with our rest of the family members. Second, it is often said that more and more people do not tend to spend their time with other family members. For example, the father may work till late and come back so late that he can't eat dinner with childrean. Also children tend to go to the class after school to prepare for the entrance examination. In fact, some children meet their father only on Sunday. So it is the least possible chance to meet with other family member in the morning at the dining room. We need to make the most use of this chance. On the other hand, other room such as living room or children't room may be important. For example, at the living room, we can watch TV together and spend comfortable time. And at the children's room, children can have their own space and do what they want to do. But I think while watching TV, we can't talk with other memebers so much. Also if the children stay their own room and do not open the door, they miss the chance to talk with their parents about what was happened at the school. By and large, these room may sometimes keep family members from meeting. As a result, I consider the dining room is the most important because we may able to have a chance to talk with other members of the family. While eating, we may be able to discuss the problem or children may able to hear what the parents say. Futhermore, it may provide us most comfortable time with parents or children. We can enjoy talking with others as well as eating meel. I think that's the most important point. |

We can use many kinds of transportation now, sich as trains, buses, air planes, and ships. Although all of those have both advantages and sidadvantages, I personally choose train to travel from my home to a place 40miles away.
First of all, we have a lot of ways to choose from. Suppose I use the bus for traveling, it may take long time to reach the place where I planned to go. However, because a bus tends to trael slowly, we can enjoy the view from the window. I think this is the advantage of useing the bus. On the other hand, the disadvantage of traveling bus is that we might lose our time to enjoy the place where we aimed to visit. That is to say, we spend much time for transportation. Second, we may be able to choose air planes or ships. But I think it is not the best choice for traveling to a place 40 miles away. It is too close to take the air plane or ship. Besides, as is often the case that airport or ferry port tend to be located at the place where we can't access easily. Thus I might not choose them. Third, we may able to choose a train. I think it is the best way. There are a lot of train stations in my town and we can go every place conveniently. Also the fee of the train is not so expensive. Most of the cases, I can sit while using the train and enjoy the view. Thus I can see there are a lot of advantages. Futhermore, it takes less time by train than by bus. I personally think the important points to choose the transportation are how long it takes to reach the place and whether I can use that transportation easily. As a result, in my opoinion, using a train is the best choice. We may not lose our time to enjoy sightseeing or looking around the town to travel. That is to say we can save our time. Futhermore, the cost is not so expensive and we can access the station easily. Thus it has much more advantages than other choices. |

I don't agree with the idea that people should read only those books that that are about real events, real people, and establishe facts. There are many kinds of books at the book store and the library, and we can choose these books. I personally think we need to read many varieties of books. The reasons are following.
First of all, if we read only those books that are about real events, we may miss the chance to read the novel or SF books. Although we can get useful knowledge by reading the non-fiction books, I think both non-fiction books and fiction books are good for us to read. Books about real event may provide us the practical knowkedge or skill in the real world. For exmple, I read the book about the invention of cars and I learned the history of the car. I also learned how one man succeeded in the modern society. In this way, I could know how the first car cars are produced. It was a very useful information. Another example is that I read the essay of traveling to Europe. Because I was very interested in traveling in Europe I decided to read the essay about it. By reading that book, I could know how to look around Europe effectively in short times. And I also learned the good places to visit where I never heard before. In short, the books about real events provide us what we want to know. On the other hand, novels or SF books may provide us more that knowledge. For example, I read the book written by Souseki Natsume, who is one of the most famous novelists in Japan, when I was a high school student. While I was reading that book, I thought about a lot of things, for example, how the feeling of the author might change in the process of writing the book. Also I imagined the story of the book and involve myself into the story of the book. After I finished reading, I had a chance to talk about that book with my friends. We exchanged the idea and I could know how other people felt by reading that story. In this way, I knew the images reflected by the book may change from people to people. Even I knew sometimes we felt different kind of emotion by reading the same book according to where we read the book or when we read the book. That is to say, the novels may provide emotional intelligence. As a result, I think we need to read both books about the real events and novels. In this way, we can know the real world and also we can have the ability to imagine or create. We should bear it in mind and choose the best books for us. I think books are one of best teachers for us. It may necessary for us to make the most use of these books. |

We often give children some gifts. Parents may choose gifts which can contribute to a child's development. I personally think a book is the best present for a child.
First of all, a book can be read again and again. In my experience, for example, my parents bought me a lot of books when I was a child. Even though I could't read the books at that time, my mother told the story of the book for me. She tood the same story again and again when I went to bed. So I almost remembered the whole story of that book. And after I learned to read at the school, I could read that book by myself and understood the story in detail. In this way, I think I could make the most use of that book. It helped me to enjoy reading as well as create the imagination. I think that's one of the advantages of choosing the books as the present for children. Futhermore, even the adult may enjoy the book. The mother may choose the book which she read when she was a children. For example, I sometimes put out the book from the book case which my aunt gave for me. I feel comfortable by reading these children's book. And I would like to tell my child about this book in the future. In this way, one book may connect one generation with other. Children can understand the importance to keep the things and learn from the olders. I consider it promotes the mental deveolopment of children. As a result, I think book may introduce children not only knowledge but also creative imagination or importance of learning from olders. Also good books may remain for long time and we can enjoy those books again and again in the process of the life time. Thus I consider one good book may contribute the development of the children so much. |

There occurred a lot of changes during the 20th century. Among all, I personally think the invention of the cell phone is the most important change. The reasons are following.
First of all, because of the invention of the cell phone, more and more people use the cell phone. It is said that every one people in Japan has own cell phone now. These cell phones change our daily life dramatically. We can talk with friends or family members whenever we want and also we can send a message using the E-mail. For example, as soon as I send a message to my friend, I can receive a response from her. So I can say the cell phones connect each other every time. There are a lot of benefits provided by cell phone. If we have the trouble, we can call a help with cell phone. In some cases, I heard that people who lost in the mountain had rescued because he could call the help. So the cell phone is very useful in our daily life and even sometimes it saves our life. On the other hand, there are a lot of problems provided by cell phone. For example, because of the easy calling with cell phone, it is said that more and more young children get involved int the crime. Sometime they get in touch with adults, who is the criminal, without notice. I think we have to consider how to make the best use of cell phone. And we must notice sometimes using cell phone may be dangerous because it enables us to get in touch with every people whom we don't know. We should bear it in mind. As a result, the invention of the cell phone during the 20th century changed our daily life dramatically. It provides us both good and bad aspects. Now we have to do is how to deal with cell phone and make the most use of it. Now cell phone itself is still changing. We have to keep in touch with these changes and how to deal with the occurring problems. Then I think we can enjoy using the cell phone in the future. |

I don't agree with the idea that reading fiction is more enjoyable than watching movies. I personally think there is much more fun when watch the movie.
First of all, I would like to emphasize that we can watch the movies with friends. On the contrary we may not be able to read fiction together. I think watching movie with friends is enjoyable because we can share the idea with friends with whom I watched the movie. For example, I watched the movie SF movie with friends, and after watching the movie we talked about the movie. The main subject of the movie was the society in the future which was dominated by computers which were made by human. In the movie, we became have a lot of problems which were made by computer. My friends and I discuss how computers can threaten our daily life in the future, also we imagine what if the story of the movie came true. In this way, we clould enjoy after watching the movie as well as during watchig it. Moreover, movies provide us visual scenery. On the other hand, we can't watch the scene during reading the novels. These fact mean we can enjoy using both ears and eyes when we watch the movie. Thus the scene of the movie may be easier to understand than that of book. That means we can remember the story again and again after watching the movie. Also we can enjoy the actors or actoress of the movies. For example, if there are good actors in the movie, the movie may be much more interesting than original story of that movie. In addition, it is often said the music of the movie is well made. At the theatre, we may be able to enjoy the music as well as the movie. The music may make us imagine the world of that movie. As a result, in my opinion, I think watching movie is more enjoyable than reading fiction. Although reading the novel by oneself may be sometimes enjoyable because we can feel comfortable and concentrate on reading that novel, I think movies provide us more than it. We can share the feeling with friends after watching the movie and also we can enjoy the visual scene or music through the movie. I consider it makes us imagine the world of the movie. |

I prefer have the universitiy assign a sudent to share a room. We may have more chances to get in touch with new people.
First of all, if the university assign a student, it is likely that I can meet a student whom I have not seen hem or her. Moreover, I may be able to share a room with a student whose major is different from mine. Suppose her major is history, I can hear about history from her and also I can tell about biology, my major. In this way, I think we can share knowledge. Second, the university may assign a student according to their status. For example, an American girl may have a chance to share a room with one foreign student, such as Japanese or Korean. If it does so, we have a chance to exchange cultures. Suppose I study abroad and entered the university in America, I am likely to share a room with another American student. I will be able to talk with American culture with her and cook a dinner with her. I think that's one of advantages to have the universities to assign the room because they may take student's background into consideration. On the other hand, if we choose our own roommate, we tend to share with people whom we know well. And we can't share a room with new students. Even worse, we may make own group consisted of old friend and keep other people from entering the group. I think it means we miss the chance to know the new world. As a result, I consider there are more advantages to have the universities assign the room. We must have the chance to meet with new student and know the different kind of world. Also the ability to get along with a lot of people may useful after graduating school, especially when we have a job. I think that's the key to success in the real world. |

I don't agree with the statement that self-confidence is the most important facotr for success in school or work. Although self-confidence may be essential in some cases, I think it is not the most important factor.
First of all, I consider the ability to get along with other people is the most important factor. In my opinion, to cooporate with other people is nessary for living in the society. For example in the school we have a chance to take part in the club, then we need to work with other people sharing the tasks. If we graduate from college, we may have a job and work with many new colleagues. Suppose one person does not have the ability to cooporate with other people, then he may be neglected by other people. Even if he has lots of knowledges, he will not be able to succeed at the company. Second, sometimes I think self-confidence may prevent a person from having a big chance. That is to say, too much confidence may become the obstacle. For example, one person believes he can finish the task by oneself and tell other people it is no need for them to help him. And later he notice he can't finish it in time. In this case, he shouldn't believe his ability too much. As a reslut, I think the ability to get along with other people is more important than self-confidence. Sometimes we may be fail because of the too much self-confidence. We need to keep it in mind. To cooporate with other people is the vital skill for succeeding in the real world. |

I don't agree with the idea that human needs for farmland, housing, and industry are more important than saving land for endangered animals. I personally think there are more advantages to save land for animals.
First of all, recently it is said that we poluted the earth. We improved the living style dramatically and we can get what we need so easily. But at the same time we tend to deteliorate the environment. For examle, we cut the trees to farm or build the houses and the big factories, and in this way the serious environmental problems are occurring. I think we should not suffer the earth from now on. Not only wild animals but also ourselves may suffer in the near future because of the serious environmental problems. Second, now that we get the convinient life, it is time to think about the other lives such as wild animals or plants. A lot of beautiful wild animals are in danger because of the polution. For instance, if one kind of fish is disappeared from the river, it causes the danger of other animals such as whales or dolphins which eat that fish. In this way, the danger may be extended and more and more animals will be in danger. So what we have to do now is to save these wild animals. On the other hand, industry or farm are essential for modern human life. We can't live without these things. But I think we have to think the way to live with other wild creatures. We need to bear it in mind. For example in my town a lot of natural parks remain for wild animals and so we can see many birds which are said to be one of the endangered animals. So we have to choose the best way for both ourselves and wild animals. As a result, to save the endangered animals is more important now. If we don't take the wild lives into consideration and think about ouly our need, we may be in danger as well as wild animals. We have to discuss seriously how to live with other animals which are in danger. |

I think the quality of the person's previous work is most important. The resons are following.
First of all, if a person are to teach the others to do the job, they need to tell about the job in detail and sometimes use a specific example. Then I think the quality of the previous work must be useful. For instance, the man did the high quality of work in advance, he can teach his way of doing the work and make others understand what is essential for completing the task. Second, I think the person's education or work experience is not as worthy as the quality of the person's previous work when it come's to teaching the job. Even if the person graduated from the most famous university, it is no use if he does not have the ablity to get along with others. For example, if he does not know how to deal with others or how to complete the task with other peole, he cannot teach others because they cannot understand him. On the other hand, sometimes the person's work experience may be important. For examle, when one person need to teach how to use the computer software, the person who had been worked at the computer company may be the best person to teach. So in some cases, the previous work experience may be effective. Although the person's education or work experience may be important in some cases, I consider there are more advantages when a person who can do high quality of work because they must know the skill to complete the task getting along with other people. As a result, I think the most important point when a person teaches someone to do the job is in the quality not in the quantity. |

I had been working at Pacifico Yokohama this weekend. I did the work as a receptionist at the Peritoneal Dialysis committee. Threre were a lot of doctors at the hall, on average 1000 people each day. Thus we had a busy time in the morning. But in the afternoon, I could have the time to talk with other colleagues. One of the woman said she had been studying in Nevada, America. She graduated from college and now she is going to the college in Japan. She said there were few Japanese at her school. I thought her English conversation skill was really good. I wish I could speak like her. Anyway, I am fond of this part-time job very much especially because I have a chance to a lot of talented persons. My boss gives me the job related to academic conference concerned with medical affairs and so I enjoy the job by listening a part of the lectures during the job.
I don't agree with the idea that parents or other adult relatives should make important decisions for their older teenaged children. I personally think teenaged children are old enough to make a decision by oneself. First of all, as we grow, we become possess the ability to think and decide. And we need to make the most use of these abilities. If we do not so, for example, the children can't improve their skill to think and choose the way which seems to be the best for them. The children may suffer from making a decision. But I think it's the essential process when people get grow. Futhermore, if the children were to work at the company after graduating form high school, they need to choose the company or area of the work. They have to make a decision by theirselves. For example, if the parents or other asults decide the company for their children, at first the company they choose may seem to fit for the children, but soon children must notice they should have decided the company by theirselves. I think teenage children already have enough ability to tell good from bad for them. On the other hand, sometimes children may mistake the decision and fail their task. But I think they can improve themselves through these bitter process. What parents or other adults can do for them at this time is to encourage them. But they should not disturb their way of doing. I think it is important for parents to believe their children and watch what the chiidren can do by themselves. As a result, I consider parents or other adults sould not make a decision for their teenage children. Instead, parents need to make children have a chance to make a important decision by theirselves and watch the growth of the children. I think that's the key to success in the real world. |

I don't agree with the idea that teachers should be paid according to how much their students learn. I personally think they should be paid according to the students' evaluation.
First of all, if the teacher should be paid according to how much students learn, they tend to emphasize on their students's grade, such as A, B, C or D. They may begin to make all their students take A. But in fact, I think there are a few students who can't understand the subjects as rapidly as most of other students. Thus I think teachers have to pay attention to these minor students. Futhermore, if the teacher tend to make students study hard to get good grades, the students may feel overwhelmed. Then, the students can't respect the teacher and the atmosphere of the class may get worse. So I think teachers have to be paid according to the students' evaluation. If it comes true, students' can choose the good teacher who have the willing to teach and also who can teach according to the ability of each student. Besides, teachers may struggle to learn how to teach the students or how to deal with the problems which occurred in the class. I consider there are important thing that cannot be measured by tests or grades, that is to say, mental facts. Teachers should be careful for the relationships among the students. As a result, I think teachers should be paid according to the evaluation by their students. Teachers need to pay attention not only how much students learn but also how they act or feel during the school. In this way, the teachers can change according to the evaluation and the students can have much better education. |

We have many chances to work with bosses or supervisors. There are several qualities of a good boss or supervisor. I would like to describe in the following.
First of all, I think one of the most essential qualities is to be respected by other people. For exaple, in the company we may work under the one boss. If the boss isn't respected by other people, the atmosphere of the company may be worse and many people may not tend to work harder. And if the boss is respected by the people in the company, everyone may listen to his words and get along with other colleagues. I think what is important for boss is not the power to compel but the respectful attitude. Second, I think keeping the originality is important. It is said that most of Japanese tend to lose one's identity. But I personally think we need to have one's originality. If the boss lose his originality, other people in the company can't be attracted to him. On the other hand, if one boss has his own unique point, other people may notice him and tend to speak with him. In the company, for examle, we often need to discuss the matter such as the result of the trade. Then I think it is essential for people to insist the original idea during the discussion. If the boss doesn't account for his unique idea, other people may be dissapointed to him and they can't tell their original thoughts, too. Thus, I think to keep his originality is essential skill for the boss. As a reslut, to be respected by other people and to posess one's originality are vital qualities for the boss or the supervisor. If we are to be a boss, we need to keep them in mind. I think that is the key to success in the real world. |

I agree with the idea that university should give the same amount of money to their student' sports activities as they give to their university libraries. I personally think both sports activities and the university libraries are worthwhile for the students.
First of all, I assume many adults think the librsries are more important than sports activities because the books are essential for students to studying at the school. They think the school is the place to learn some subjects such as history, law, science, or language. I partly agree with this idea, but I think we have one more essential thing to learn, that is to say the relationship among the students. I personally think the university is the place in which we make a preparation for living in the real world after the graduation from universities. In other words, we need to learn the skills to live in the society, such as company or office, at the universities. Then, I think the sports activities may play an important role in this progress. We have a chance to take part in the sports activities at the universities. For example, I belong to the table tennis club and I enjoy sports activities after the class. At the club I get along with older students as well as younger students. I can learn a lot about the communication skill from the older students and I also sturuggle to teach the younger students. I consider these processes are very important and worthwhile to learn. Also there are a lot of rules in the sports activities. Thus we can learn there are basic rules when we do something together. I think these imformation can't be obtained through the books. As a reslut, I think we need to make a most use of sports activities as well as the university libraries. We can learn the essential skills, such as the communication skill or keeping a rule, through the activities, which cannot be written in the books. Thus I think it's essential for the universities to give the same amount of money to the sports activities as well as the university libraries. |

I don't think that luck has nothing to do with success. I consider both hard work and luck are important for success.
First of all, I know a lot of people who made the success. As I see them, I think they are lucky persons. For exaple, I have one friend who won the scholarship. Everyone assumed he would not get one, but actually he made it. I think that's because he had the luck. Another example is about novel prize. Recently a Japanese man, who didn't so famous among scientists, won the Nobel prize. In fact, he was nothing but a typical Japanese business man, and so everyone was surprised to hear that he took the prize. I personally think he had the luck as well as potential. He discovered the new scientific facts at the best time. There are a lot of people who can't get the nobel prize no matther how they invent new things and make the great discover. On the other hand, I can't deny that hard work is something to do with the success. However does she or he have the luck, if he does't think about his work or study, he won't get the fortune. That is to say, if the man don't study hard and merely dream of his success, the dream won't come true. As a result, I think not only luck but also hard work has essential for success. People who always think about their work and prepare for the success can get the fortune. I believe that's the key to success. |

If I could change one important thing about my hometown, I would found an international community center. There are a lot of foreigners in our town. I think an international community center would become a major place to promote the frienship between foreigners and ourselves.
First of all, although there are a lot of foreigners in our town, there are not any place to exchange each other. For exaple, because there is a big German company in our town, we often see the German children going to school. But they seem to have no chance to make friends with Japanese. I think that's because there are no place to commit such as an international community center. If there were an international community center, German children would get along with Japanese children and they would understand there is no difference between Japanese and German. It is said that some people tend to have predudices about the foreign peole. But if the children can get along with foreign children, they will not have these predudices naturally. Another reason is that we can exchange the cultures. For exaple, we can hold the culture festival at the community center. We can introduce our town such as history or culture. There are a lot of sites of ancient living in our town. So we may be able to intoduce the history of our town or unique cultures. And also we can know their foreign cultures, too. In this way, I think we can know each other much better. As a result, I think the international community center provides us the opportunity to promote the friendship between foreigners and Japanese. Besides we may also learn foreign cultures, that is to say, we can do the cultural exchange. I think not only can we know other cultures but also we can remember our own cultures. I consider that's why the international community center would play an important role in our town. |

The new factory may influence on our community both in good ways and in bad ways. Although there are a lot of adertages by building a large factory, I personally oppose the factory.
First of all, one of the big disadvantages of this new factory is that the enviromantal problem will occur. If there are large company near our town, the air surrounding the town may become dirty. For exaple, I heard the story about the Minamata disease, which is occurred at the small town near the big factory. A lot of peole living that town became sick. Futhermore, it caused that some people died earlier. Also the gases emitted from the factory may cause the rises of the temperature. These effects may remain year after year. We may suffer from these problems or even worse, our children may suffer, too. Another disadvantage is that it may thretened our original industory. For exaple, our town may famous for producing the clothes which are made by hand. But if the big factory of clothes were built, it would affect our own indurtory a lot. Suppose most of the people living our town may be working the company and sawing the cloghes by hand, then big new factory can produce clothes faster and cheaper. The result is that the new factory thretened the people living in that town and some people may lost their jobs. I think it's one of the big problems. On the other hand, there are advantages, too. The new factory may enploy many people living in our community. Then the standards of living in our community may improve because of the new buisiness. In addition, the new factory tends to help the community by paying a large amount of money. Thus our community may become richer. But still I think we have to remember the fact that it may offer some disadvantages as well as advantages. As a result, there are more disadvantages than advantages when the new factory is built. We have to take the problems which occurred from the factory, such as enviromental effects or effects to our original industory, into consideration. Thus we need to keep an eye on the new factory. |

Owing to the development of the science and the technology, we can get many kinds of foods easily. I peronally think these improvements provide us better life.
First of all, the technology of reserving foods made it possible to get many foods which could not get 100 yeaars ago. For example, we developed the technology of canned food or freezed food. People who are living the region where it is difficult to obtain fresh meat or fish can eat the canned fish or meat. Thus we can get the enough nutrition. These changes can contribute to the longer life. It is said that more and more people are living longer now. I think the development of food supply may be one of the causes. Another exaple is we can have a chance to get the fruits or vegetables in all seasons. It is said that fruits contain important vitamins. If we can eat these fruits constantly through the year, we may keep the good health condition. We may not catch a cold or sick. Good food supply makes it possible to maintain the better mind. On the other hand, some changes in the food technology may cause the bad aspects. For exaple, there are a lot of foods which contain some chemical addictives. They may cause the disease such as canser. Especially, we tend to use the fast food when we don't have a time to cook the foods. These fast food is said to contain a lot of chemical addictives which have harmful effects. But, when it come to these bad aspects, I think what cause the harmful aspects are not the foods, but our choices. If we choose the foods by considering the health or longterm affects, we can enjoy the foods. As a result, although there are some kinds of harmful affects causing the food technology, I think these changes provide us better life. We can get much more varieties of food eaeily, which makes us healthier. Thus what is needed now is to consider about the foods more and learn how to choose the best foods for us. I think that's the key to enjoying the improvements of the foods. |

Recently more and more people tend to attend college or university after graduating from high school. I think there are several reaasons they go to college or university.
First of all, we can get futher knowledge at the college or university. When it comes the high school education, we learn basic subjects such as language, science, history, or music. Although we can study a lot of kinds of subjects at the high school, we may not be able to study one special subject in detail. At the university, we can choose the subject which we are most interested in and study more about it. In my experience, for example, I choose to learn biology at the university. When I was a high school student, I had a chance to attend the research project of science and I was very interested in biology. Thus, I chose to study biology at the university. Now I am learning special field of biology. If someone wish to study one subject more detail, I think to go to the university is the best way. Another reason is we can have a chance to study more than knowledge at the college or university. There are a lot of students who are taking different kinds of major at the university. I think we can learn a lot of things by talking with another students. For exaple, I talked with one students who were taking history class and I heard about her research project. Because I didn't know much about the history, I could learn there are many fiele which I didn't know. Also, when I was taking the laboratory class, I did the work with another 2 students. Through the experiment, I could learn the importance of getting a long with other people. I think this kind of things are very useful in the real society after the graduation. Althogh we can study the social skills at the high school, I personally think we can learn more about it which is essential at the college or university. All these reasons, I think people choose to go to the college or university. We can study more about one subject in detail and also we can notice the important skills which are necessary for living in the society. |

| I had the laboratory class today. We did the continued work. We struggled to measure the electrical potential of the wroms. Because the success of that work depended on some what luck we did the same kind of things again and again. The teacher said we might succeed if we never gave up. It is often said that some people get the big fortune by accident but I personally think these people have the potential to have the fortune. They may tend to think about the scene of the success and have the willingness to go through all of the hard work. I think we have to bear this in mind. The teacher also said most of the people tend to succeed when we decided to give up the work that day and began to clean up. I think it is true. When we decided to finish the experiments, we got the chance to get the good data. I think what teaches us a lot of things is experience. |

Today I had the laboratory class. I did the work with 2 other members. We used the worm and examined the neuro system of the worm. The teacher introduced TAs to us. I thought they were very smart persons reserching about a lot of difficult problems. Although I am interested in neuro systems, I am not good at dealing with worms. I wish I could study more practical issues like medical affairs.
After I came back, I had a lot of things to do. Now, I am searching for the location of the schools in America. I heard from the teacher that Wisconsin is the best place to study. As I knew more about it, I could understand what he meant. I agree with his idea. I wish I could stay the place where the climate is warm. But, I think most of the places are not the perfect places comparing to the West coast. So I have to take it consideration that I have to accept the idea that we can tolerate the cold climate. I will compare them more. |

I think I can feel better at physics laboratory than biology one because I can't understand the way to deal with the biological materials. Anyway, I decided to study harder during the fall semester. I think I didn't spend much time for laboratory work during the spring semester.
And also I decided to take the TOEFL test again to get the better score. I considered how to do better. To study both listening and reading constantly is the best way. And also I think there are some essential points specific to TOEFL test. So I need to catch these points. |

After I reached there, I dropped at the cafe to eat lunch. There were a lot of families there since today was a holiday. While I was eating at that shop, I got a mail from my mother. She wrote me that she was at Ibaragi at that time and enjoying the day trip. She also said she saw a big water fall and the bridge, which was the longest bridge in Japan. I went to Shinyokohama to take the TOEFL examination. At first, I think it will be good. But unfortunately, I mistook the allocation of the time and so I couldn't complete the listening section. I really regretted myself. As a result, I had to cansel the score reporting.
After going back home, I considered the result and decided to GRE tests from now on. The school will begin soon and the laboratory class will be held at the first day of the fall semester. I need to consider the time schedule of the fall semester. I wish I am able to have the extra free time to spend my own time. |

I went to the school festival with my friend. The friend with whom I went there was had the job and so we couldn't meet each other recently. I felt very happy to meet her. At first, we concerned about the rain because according to the weather forecast, the big typhoon will come to Kantou region. But, while we were there, it didn'rain so heavily. We went to the Kateibu and meet my sister. My sister also seemed to be happy to meet her. After that, we went to the tea room and drank the tea. My friend had the ricence of tea and she knew a lot about the polite manner and the spirit of Japanese Wabi. On the other hand, I forgot how to do that, I felt ashamed.
During walking inside the school, I met a lot of class mates after the long time. I was surprised I could meet so many a lot of students. I almost met 20 people. Some people already had the job like my friend. After that, we watched the dance performance. I was especially looking forward to watching it. It was a very good performance. We went to Futako by taxi and dropped at new shopping center to eat dinner. We went to the a little fancy restaurant and eat Italian dinner and cakes. It was realy good. We talked about a lot of things. She said she will finish her school, psycology mejor and continue her job of companion. I got her pictures it looked like a picture of the model. We also talked about the plan to trip on Feburary. We wanted to go to Italy. I hope the plan will come true. In front of the restaurant, we also met another classmates searching the place to eat dinner. After all, we almost met one-forth of the all students. I really enjoyed today. I hope to meet them again next year. And I hope to meet the teacher who taught me chemistry personally, too. |

I went to the library to practice the listening section of TOEFL. Although, it rained heavily, there were a lot of people studying. After that, I went to cafe to drink coffee. On my way, I noticed new shop was opened inside the shopping center. There was a cookie shop and the bakery shop. But unfortunately, I don't like taht cookie shop because it gives off a bad smell. I feel bad whenever I walk in front of that shop. Anyway, I anticipate another new shop.
Tomorrwo, I have planned to go to the school festival. Although I am looking forward to watching the dance performance, because of the rain I don't know whether I will go or not. I like watching the dance performance, especially, I am fond of modern dance. I wish I could watch at the theatre. |

I went to Shinagawa today. Because my mother is doing a volunteer job at UNICEF at Shinagawa I heard about the new big shopping centers that were built in front of Shinagwa station from her. The new express train's station will open on October and so there are a lot of big buildings now. When I reached Shinagawa, it is the lunch time and there were a lot of working women and men eating lunch outside the building. My favorite point is there were a lot of cafe I could spend whole afternoon reading a book. In fact, after I ate lunch, I stayed there until 4PM. After that, I met my mother and went back home. On our way, we dropped at ice-cream shop to eat pafe. It was very big to eat but I liked that kind of things. Anyway, we bought some foods and went back.
The school festivel of my high school will be held tomorrow and day after tomorrow. So my sister will come back home later today because she have to prepare for the festival. I think the school festival will be interesting this year. |

I went to the library to study TOEFL. In the morning I practiced the exam on the computer. But, because of the mechanical noise of my computer, it was difficult to hear the questions of the listening comprehension. I think I have to be accustomed to it more. In the afternoon, I went to the university and practiced reading section. I noticed I need to study reading again before the examination.
At the library, I read the books about America. I didn't know the characters of states of America. Especially, I wanted to know the races or histories of the states. For exaple, most of people in Wisconsin came from German, Europe at first, and so 90 percent of people now are consisted of European and there are few black people. I think it is the good chance to learn about the history of America or understand the difference between one states to another. I think I have to take it consideration when I choose the graduate school to apply. |

I examined the graduate schools on the internet. It took much time and so I almost stayed home. One time, I went out for lunch with my mother. We ate chinese dishes. I think to be able to share the dishes is the advantage when we eat chinese food. I drank the juice with tapioca. It's one of my favorite foods which I knew during my stay in America. It is the Taiwanese drink and I am fond of the texture of tapioca.
I plan to take the subject test of GRE. At first, I considered to take the biology test but it was very difficult for me. I think taking physics test is much better than biology test because I had been studying physics at high school. Now I haven't studied physics so much and so I forgot a little of them. So I need to review it and prepare for that exam. |

I went to skate in the morning and skated about 2hours. I almost learned the basic skills of skating and I was said by my teacher that I could enter the upper class. I was glad to hear that but because the school will begin soon, I will not be able to go so often.
After that, I went to Yokohama to buy some gifts for our grandparents in Nagoya. My grandmother's birthday is day after tomorrow and my grandfather recovered from his disease. And so we will prepare for some gifts for them. It took a lot of time to find the gifts because I had no idea what to buy. It is difficult to consider what was good gifts for someone. First, I planed to find the Japanese fun but I couldn't find it because the summer season was over. So instead of it, I bought small bag for my grandmother. Anyway, I planeed to take the TOEFL exam during September. I have to study for it. |

We went to Okayama today to meet our grandparents. We haven't met them since last year. I was happy to meet not only grandparents but also our cousins. One is the college student and the other is handling administration-related tasks. Both of them are very good at playing tennis and they had the experiences of playing at the inter-high. We could talk with them a little because they are busy now. To my surprisement, they have their own car and so they can go whenever they want to go at any time. I wish I were, too. And today, we went to Fukiya with our grandparents. We called a taxi and visited a lot of historical places. We visited the house like castle, which was used for one of scene of Yatsuhakamura. It was very interesting place to see. And Fukiya is famous for producing colcothar. We could learn the process of producing colcothar. Colcothar is made of ironestone and so there are big mine shaft. We could enter the mine shaft. It was very cold inside the mine shaft and the rock aroung the shaft has red color. We also visited the villege and famous art-museum. Both were very beautiful and we were glad to see them. After that, we went to Bittyuu-Takahashi to eat lunch. There abounds in fishes and so we could eat the fresh fishes.
We could stay only 2 days at Okayama but we enjoyed a lot. I would like to travel with them again. |

I had the job like yesterday. I served for the guests from the medial schools all over Japan and I could listen the lectures at the congress. Most of them were about pharyngology and they were difficult for me to understand. But for example, lectures about gustation was very interesting. During the work, I had the chance to talk with one professor of medical school and I could hear about his experience studying abroad. He recommended me to go to Wisconsin, that is to say, UWM. The more I heard about it, the more I became interested in that university. Madison is near the big lake and the environment is very good to live. And most of people living there are whites and there are few Japanese so it is the good factor to study English there. I also heard that East coast of America is dangerous to live in now and on the other hand, there are a lot of Asian in West coast of America. He taught me his telephon number and he also said I can call him about UWM if I have the question. I was very glad to hear about it. I will learn about UWM more and took it considerration for my choice.
Today, my mother went to Okayama to visit our grandparents and we will also go there tomorrow. So I have to prepare for it now. I haven't seen them for the long time and so I am looking forward to visiting them. |

| I had the job at Akasaka. My job is, to my surprisement, to translate Japanese into English for the guest from America and Germany. I assumed that there would be no need to use a diffucult English expression. But in fact I had to explain how to use the equipments for the lecture and how to reserve the data. It was the very difficult task for me but I noticed the interesting point in translating. I also heard that translator tends to earn more than 100000yen at one time. This fact attracted me a lot. I want to be the one who can use English as well as translator. It's my strong hope. In the afternoon, I didn't have much work to do so I could stay the waiting room with a lot of doctors. I felt a little bored during that time thus I think I need to bring some book tomorrow for free time. Anyway, I experienced a lot of new things today. |

I heard that a lot of doctors will come all over Japan tomorrow. And also some foreigners will come there. I was said that my job is to speak to foreigners during the congress. I am a little worry about this task but I think it is the good chance to contact with foreign people and use English. So, I will start early in the morning and continue to work untill evening. |

After that I went to Star Bucks. I noticed that recently there were a lot of foreign people at Star Bucks. I think they are heavy coffee drinkers. I can sometimes catch English at the cafe. Tomorrow, I plan to drop at the international center at Akasaka before the work because it is located near the place I will work. I wish I am able to get extra information at there. |

Now I plan to take the class of GRE at the school because writing session of the GRE is difficult to learn by myself. I chose 2 schools and compared them. Also I am searching for the class of the TSE. It is the speaking test and I think the most useful way to prepare for this test is to speak with native speaker. |

I went to the hall and did the receptionist. There I met one woman. She studied phycology at University of Tokyo. But because she was very interested in chemistry and she desired to resolve how the mind works using the scientific methods she decided to study science. So after the graduation she transferred into another universit to learn chemistry. I was surprised that before she tranferred she learned at Tokyo medical center at Shiragane. So she knew professor Inoue. Futhermore, I was astonished at her knowledge about science. She was very interested in the history of science or scientific thesis. So I could learn a lot I hadn't known from her. Especially I noticed she respected Einstain. I didn't expect she was such a big person. But what made me more surprise was that she is not only a woman who want to be a scientist, but also she is an announcer and a actress. Now she has the job of announcer in the field of science. She said she will go to Fukui to do the job at Monjyu tomorrow. She has a lot of part time job now. I can't believe such a slender woman have a so many big power. Now she is preparing for the transferring into the medical school of University of Oosaka while working as an actress and the teacher. I think she is given a lot of gifts. She said her Catholic name was Albert, that is to say, correspond with the name of Ainstain or Schweitzer. She believed she has the fate to be a scientist. It took my breath away. I think I was lucky to meet rarely talented person. I respected her motivation to chalenge new things.

| From 25th to 29th, I went to Miura to take part in the research training program. Everyday, we went to the seashore and collected sea creatures, for example, echinus and asteroids. It was very hot and so I was careful enough not to get browned. Although it was humid, I weared the long sleeve shirts and hat. We walked around the sea in the morning, and sketched sea creatures in the afternoon. The research center was located near the bathing beach and so some people came to there to swim. I envied them. We walked a lot everyday. Because Miura is famous for tuna, we could eat fresh fish at lunch or dinner. I skeched almost 20 creatures in all and we also boarded the trainning ship to search for creatures in the open sea. At night, with the big light, we collected the fish. Most of fishes tend to zero in on the light. Althogh we expected to catch the cuttlefish, we couldn't catch it. Last night, we enjoyed splitting the watermelons in the seashore. We set off fireworks. Teachers and students from different grades assembled all together and it was a good experience. Today, after we followed the course of growth of asteroid we went to exploration around the coast. Because weather was hot and humid, we became very tired. Through these 5 days, we had some problems, but as a whole, I think we spent the meaningful days. I could meet a lot of good people. One boy belongs to apparatus gymnastics club. He showed us performance. It was like the performance of Olympic which I had watched before, and so we was surprised at it. Anyway, I was very exhausted. I will rest earlier today and tomorrow I will go to the school to hand in the report and prepare for the new reports. |

We celebrateed my sister's 17th birthday today. My mother and I baked a fruit cake in the afternoon. And I prepared her a present with card. We enjoyed the cake at dinner and I felt happy to hear that she liked the present.
After that, I watched the making of "Catch me if you can". The most interesting point is that it includes the interview of real Frank W. Abagunal Jr. After hearing his speech, I was convinced that he had the ability to swindle the people. He passed himself off as airline polot, doctor, lawer, teacher and professor. I think it is because he is intelligent as well as having the power to attract people. He committed the all crimes before 18 years old. After the arrest, he cooperated with FBI and he also operated his own company. As a result, he makes ten times as much money as he had swindled before. I think it is a very rare case. What a varied life he has! |

At night, I watched 2001 on TV. I think it is a strange movie but I was surprised such a modern movie was made long time before now. The most interesting point was all the system of the space shattle was controled by computer called HAL. The name of the HAL was derived from IBM, that is to say, the next alphabet of H is M, and so are A and L. HAL thought to be a perfect computer having the high intelligence. Then only HAl knew the real mission when they reached Jupiter. He became ill because of this hidden mission, So he began to kill the crews of the shattle. As a result only one man was survived and he decided to stop the control of HAL. After that, a man began to be graviated by the energy of Jupiter. In fact, the last scene of this movie was very strange and it made me some what feel horrible. I can't explain it in words but I think it is a very interesting point of this movie. |

I could learn a lot today, especially I was glad to know how to do back skating and cross. It was a little difficult for me and I practiced a lot after the class. The advantage of this class is we can practice as long as we wich after the lesson. So I almost skaged for 2hours afterall. It's a good exercise for me and I plan to go again next week. |

I went to Shinyokohama and studied English at Dotor Coffee. I like studying at cafe. Recently, I felt it difficult to memorize a lot of words at one time. I think some tips are necessary. For example, using the etymological dicutionaly is good way. Most of English words said to derive from Latin or Greek. So, if we trace the origin, we can understand some words at once which include the same origin. I think it's a very useful way to memorize English words.
I searched for Rotary scholarship today. I knew that the deadline of this scholarship is very early. Thus I have to prepare before 2004. Futhermore, I have to find out the people who recommend for me. I need to think about it more detail. While I was studying, my other family members went to Hakone to visit the art museum. They went to Pola Art Museum and watched a lot of famous arts. After they came back I heard about the museum. They said the building of the museum was modern and the restaurant inside the museum was very comfortable. Especially my mother seemed to be happy to have been able to watch a lot of works painted by famous artists. Hearing about the museum, I feel like vieithing there, too. |

I went to Center Kita today. Because I hadn't gone outside recently so much, I went there on foot. It took about 1hour but it was cool enough to walk all the way. I dropped some shops and then I went to cafe. I ate American Maffin but it's too big for me to eat by myself. So I shared it with my mother. After that, I want to go back on foot, but it began to rain. Thus I went back by subway.
Yesterday I sent E-mail to the adviser of University of Illinois since I had a question about the application. And today I received the message. I didn't assume I could receive the reply so quickly, so I was a little surprised. But I think it's a good starting. I could get the information about the requirements. I knew that I need to take the general test of GRE and TOEFL, but the subject tests are not required. Plus basically we can get the scholarship. I think it's an essential point. |

It rained heavily and I almost stayed home. At evening, I went to cafe with my parents and ate some cakes.
According to the news, there was a blackout yesterday in NY and it continues today. As a result, the lights of the buildings were lost. I watched theTV and knew that all the subways were stopped because of the backout everyone had to go to the offices and go back home on foot. I also knew some people tried to go back home by ferry or even there were some people who gave up going back home and decided to sleep on the road. At first, everyone feared because the cause of this blackout thought to be a terrorism. In fact, the cause was stopping of the electric power plant. It is strange, however, it was not unknown which electric power plant was stopped at first. The government of Canada said the firstly stopped electric power plant was located in America. On the other hand, the government of US said the problem was occurred at Niagara at first. Why these arguments were occurred? There were almost 250 power plants in America and Canada and all of them were linked in some way. As a result, we can't make sure the cause so easily. Anyway, I knew that the subway in NY is beginning to run. But the cause has not been certain yet. I want to know the truth. |

I went to Akasaka to make sure the requirements of the applying for graduate school. I searched the graduate school using the books. Especially, I found out the program of biophysics, physiology, and neuro science. The admission data was also useful.I could get the new information about the score of the test. I decided to continue to take TOEFL test and also I prepare for the subject test of GRE.
After that, I went to Roppongi Hils. Although today was a week day and the weather was not fine, there were a lot of people. Roppongi Hils was much more bigger than I had expected. It looked like Sakuragityou and Odaiba. I dropped one of shop to eat lunch. I ate the Asian dish which I was recommended to eat. It tasted very hot and good. I walked around about 3 hours but I could't see all of the shops. There were a lot of fancy restaurants or stailish clothes shops. I would like to go there again. At night I watched "Oliver!" on TV. It was also a musical like "Annie" and the act of the children was very well made. |

I went to Hiyoshi and studied at Star Bucks. I studied GRE and tried the exam of V and Q. I thought Q was easy for me because it was the area of mathematics taught at junior high school. On the other hand, V was very difficult for me. GRE is the test for native American who wish to go to graduate school. It is the Center Exam in Japan. So, V is made for the native Americans and it contains a lot of words which are not used so often among the natives. As a result, I feel I have to study more words. I think I need to leran more than 1000 words by heart. Anyway, when I noticed I had stayed too long at the cafe, it was almost 5 PM.
At night, I watched "Annie" on TV. I watched it many times and it is one of my favorite movies. Especially, I like the girl, Annie, and her singing a song. I used to sing that song, Tomorrow, when I was a junior high school student. Although, the story was repeated as a musical every year in Japan, I personally think the movie is the best. |

I searched the graduate schools with internet. The point when I choose the school is in fellowship, program, and faculty. Especially, I concern about whether I can get the scholarship. I heard that the state universities tend to give the scholarship but it confines to citizns of that state. So I don't know if I can get any scholarship. I try to get the job of teaching assistant or research assistant. I almost narrow the list down to 6 or 7 universities. I am interested in the program of phisiology, neuro biology or biophysics. From now on, I continue to search and inverstigate the programs.
At evening, because we received the packcage of a lot of grapes, I went to Fujiya bringing these grapes to share. I visited there after the long time. I heard that one of the employee of that shop, who is a beautiful woman, gave birth to baby. I saw the picture of the baby. She was a very cute girl, I think. After I came back home, I watched the DVD, Gangs of New York. Because I didn't know the history of New York, at first I was surprised at the scene of battle. I can't imagine such a big battle was occurred a hundred years ago. When the first immigrants landed the America, many groups fighted each other because of the religion or ethics. It seemed to me something savage or aggressive. Although the actors of this movie were good, the story was too aggressive. Anyway, I found out the new aspects of the beginning of the America. |

It is getting hotter and hotter. But on the other hand, it is said it will be cool like autumn. It is strange and the cause of this climate is said to be the atmosphere.
I went to the library in the afternoon and study GRE. I noticed that their is the strategy in the exam. So, I plan to study these points. Anyway, I want to go somewhere toomorrow. Especially, I want to go to Roppongi Hils. It is the new place to shop and built recently. Although it is the famous place and introduced by a lot of articles, I've never gone to there. So, I would like to visit during the summer. |

Anyway, I think I have to study English harder. I noticed the summer vacation would be over rapidly if I hadn't spent effectively. So, I plan to go to the library of the university and study constantly. |

In the morning, I went to Kodomo-no-kuni by car. There were a lot of children because there was a swimming pool. Today is the most hottest day in this year. It is too hot to stay outside for a long time. So we walked around for 1 hour and soon we came back. while walking, I saw the cow and sheep. All of them were young and looked very cute.
I knew that there is a site of big militaly installation. So we could see some caves along the road. I would like to see inside the cave. We noticed that the tour of this site was held today. In this tour, we can learn about the history. I became interested in this history. Tomorrow, I will go to hair salon. Because I havn't gone to the salon recently, my hair looked almost black. So I want to dye my hair bright brown. I think it will be look better in summer. |

The big typhoon came to Japan today. Outside the house, the strong wind brew and it rained heavily. So, as a result, I couldn't go out. I stayed home and wrote the report of memory and neuron, which I learned during the summer school. Because I am very interested in neuro science, I plan to study by myself during the summer.
At evening, I went out a little, but because of the wind, I took pain to proceed to walk. Tomorrow, my sister will travel to Chiba with her 3 friends. She will stay the house of her friend's near the sea and spend time there for 3 days. I envy her. The next travel for me is summer school of Miura Research Center. I hope we can enjoy. Anyway, I expect I will be able to go out tomorrow. |

I went to Rinsyou Research Center with my classmates. We could see the movement of the neuron. Owing to the luminescent material, we can observe the movement of each 1 molecules. I noticed that these molecules tend to be assembled the middle. The researcher who explained us made the whole devices by himself. He said it was his pleasure to make the new equipments for research. I think that's the vital spirit to be a researcher. I also talked about studying abroad. He said that it is better to go abroad during the graduate students.
After that, we talked with professor Harada drinking tea. She said that she alwayes stay there till 2AM at midnight and all of them have only 5 day summer vacation. We talked about a lot of things. I knew that she experienced Hanshin earthquake when she had stayed at Osaka. She said she still has the trauma and she is always careful for preparing for the earthquake. I think is is a valuable words. After all we stayed there untill 6:30 PM, then we left there. The people at the research center went to the after-hours party. At home, I noticed I received E-mail from Elic. Accoding to him, he watched the same movie as me at the same time. It is very interesting. He also wrote to me that Fumiyo, one of LSI students whom I met, visits LSI again now. I envy her.. I wish I could go now! |

I went to the university today to visit Satou's laboratory. I talked with professor and he said I needed to hand in the reports during August to be admitted the units of the course. So, I have to write the reports of the summer school. I need to choose the topics which I was interested in and explain about those topics. Because I was very interested in the system of brain and bought the book about brain and neuron, I think I will be able to write something.
After that, I went to the library of Hiyoshi. There were a lot of people because the summer school was held. While I was searching the book, I came acroos my friend of club. So, I talked with her about 1 hour. I heard that she has the volunteer job at Odaiba now. She is explaining about robots for the visitors of museum. The master of this museum is Mouri, an astoronomer, and on my surprisement, she can often meet him. I think it's a good experience for her. I hope I can visit her during the summer vacation. I also heard about the job-hunting. One of the members of the club got the job of researcher. It reminds me that I have to think about job. Anyway, I will meet her again to talk about something about the club. Tomorrow, I will go to Harada Laboratory at Komagome. After all, I will go with my 4 classmates. I think it is good to visit with many people. |

I went to the movie with my sister today. First, we reserved the seats and went to the library. There were a lot of people waiting the opening of the library. I want to watch a lot of DVD during the summer vacaiton and continue to listen in English. Especially, I am looking forward to buying "Catch me if you can", which is one of my favorite movies.
Anyway, we watched "Pirates of Caribbean". The story was like "Road of the Ring" and it was a very fantastic movie. One of pirates was very unique and he was a good actor. After watching the movie, I met my mother and drank some coffee. I talked about my studying plan. At night, I noticed I received E-mail from Elic. He is studing International Business at college. He wrote some part of the sentences in Japanses and I was very glad. I hope I could study abroad soon. |

Today was the last day of Summer School. I heard about the process of memory both from the aspect of medicine and psycology. Threre are two types of memories, that is to say, short term memory and long time memory. Some diseases effect on eather short term memory or long term memory. One man, for example, can't remember at all what was happened ten years ago because of the disturbance of brain. I hope the remedy of these problems will become clear soon.
Through this summer school, I think I could get more than knowledge. I knew there were a lot of people studying hard and concentrating on their researhes. All the participants seemed to be willing to know the new things. I have to imitate them. At first, I decide to go to summer school because of the points of university course work, but now I think I have to study sponteneously. My aim during the summer vacation is to read book about brain. I began to be engaged in studying neuro biology. Now, I think I was stimulated a lot by participating in the summer school. It was good experience for me. |

First, I went to the simposium at Yoyohi international center. This simposium was held by the students of Stanford University. So some of students at Stanford University and also the professor came from US. The main topic was about the venture company and a lot of university students were coming from all over Japan. I was surprised at the fact that all the procedures of this project were made by hand of real students. I heard that in America, a lot of companies or universities tend to invest the venture buisiness created by students. I also learned it is popular in America that students learn about buisiness or trade. I envy this fact. In Japan, although there are some venture companies, it is difficult to establish a new company because of the money. Also there are few support for those people. So, eventually, people who graduate from university tend to get a job in big company. I think it is not a good idea. If there were more support for founding a company, more and more people could have a chance to try a new business. I think that's the key to recovering the economic distress. It is vital for government to support a money for innovative idea. Although there is a risk to do so, I think it has more benefit than shortage.
During the lunch, I talked with a man who is a freshman student of Waseda University. On my suprisement, he has the plan to establish a venture buisiness about bio technology. I noticed there were a lot of big students in Japan. I ashamed myself because I even didn't know about these of things. In the afternoon, I went to summer school and I heard about the neuro science. The speaker, the doctor, spoke about the case of defect of memory. A lot of sites of brain connect to this problem. One of these cases are related to semantic memory, that is to say recognizing one object as one thing which has own feature. If one man has the problem in brain relating to this defect, for example, he can't assosiate apple with fruits. So in fact, he can't understand how to deal with this food. I didn't know there are such kind of disease. I heard that these disease are difficult to recover. I expect that the medicine would be made soon. I think this kind of subjects are related to wide variety of learning. Some are about psychology and other are about medicine. I wish I can learn about this kind of subject. During the summer vacation, I would like to try to read a book about neuro science. |

I went to University at Ochanomizu and lietened the lectures. One of them was about the neuro transmission and memory. The professor of Kyoto University lectured about the research of ape. I was interested in the approach of that research. I thought the vital fact to invent a new idea was to continue to believe their own way of researching. I want to research about the brain or neuro science. I think this part of science is more popular in America. So, I want to study this kind of things when I can study abroad.
There were a lot of graduate students coming from all over the majors. One person sitting next to me said he was a studnt of medical school and he studied a lot of things now. I heard that he had the laboratory classes 5 times a week. After all, I listened 3 lectures and I was a little bit tired. On my way to go back, I came across one of my class mates at university. She was also listening the lecture. Tomorrow, I plan to go to another meeteing and then go to Ochanomizu. It will be a busy day. |

I rested at home today because I was very tired. In the morning, I went to the eye clinic and I noticed I lost my good eyesight. Thus, I changed the contact lense. I consider if I continue to use computer, my eyesight will be worser and worser. It is very sad. I have to be careful how long I watch the screen of computer.
Tomorrow, I will go to Ochanomizu to participate in the summer school at Tokyo Ikashika University. I will leave home early in the morning and listen the lecture until 5PM. |

I left home on 7/29 in the morning and met my family at Furukawa. Then we went to Miyako. Miyako is famous for its beauty of coast. Thus we were looking forward to seeing them. The hotel we stayed was very good and we could eat the fresh fishes. Unfortunately the next day was rainy day. But I thought it was also good to see the rofty rock veied in the morning haze beneath drizzly skies. We visited Jyoudoshima and saw the huge rocks at the seashore. There were a lot of gulls. It made sense that the confection called "egg of gull" was famous in Touhoku. After visiting the seashore, we went to Ryusendou, a kind of cave. Inside the cave was very cool and I was surprised at the shape of the hall. The course was intricated. We could see the pond and stalagmite in it. We also saw the newly discovered cave. That one was found by the students at the high school. It was also big and it includes colorful rocks. After that, we went to pension SAAB. I like there because the view from the living room was beautiful and the interior was attractive. The dinner was made of inventive and healty dishes. I was totaly satisfied.
On 7/31, we went to Koiwai Farm in the morning. There were some cows and sheep. We could see the show of sheep and dog. The dog in the show was smart and very cute. At the sheep house, I watched the process of making cloth using the wool. We ate the fresh soft cream and cheese cake. It was fine day to walk, so we went arond the farm and spent the relaxed time. At lunch, we barbecued outside. After that, we did archery. I tried by myself for the first time, and I could do better than I had imagined. We also visited the factory of milk product. We could dring fresh milk and watch the process of making the packs of milk there. I knew that one cow can made a great amount of milk in a day. In the afternoon, we drived through Hachimantai. On our way, we dropped at the abandoned building. I felt horrible a little because it made me feel there were someone still living there. I heard that it was the site of mine. Recently, there is a trend of visiting abandoned buildings and I know some photo books are sold at the book shops. The view from the Hachimantai was very good. After being back to SAAB, we tried to do the smll fire-work, but we had the second thought and did the card game. It was a fanny time. Today, we went back home from Iwate. It took about 8 hours. On our way, we visited Tyuusonji, a temple. It was famous for Konjikidou. I visited here when I was an elementary student, but I was too young to understand everything. The way to the temple was beautiful and there were tall trees along the way. Konjikidou was made of gold and it had a radiant beauty. In Japanese Haiku, Bashou called this building as Hikari-dou. I think it is worthy to be called so. After that, I drived a little and went back home at 10PM dropping at Nasukougen and Tochigi. We were so lucky that we did not involved in the traffic jam. I think we could enjoy our trip very much. |

I had a call from my sister and she said the hotel was very comfortable. Tomorrow, I will start early in the morning and go to Furukawa to meet with my family. According to the weather forecast, it will rain tomorrow. I hope the weather will be fine because we will drive aroung the coast and I think we will be able to see the beautiful landscape if it is fine. I heard that the coast of the side of Pacific Ocean was very beautiful. Especially, the line is very complicated and it makes the unique view. I am looking forward to seeing them. |

Tomorrow, my family will left home to travel around Touhoku by car. So, I have to stay home alone after school. I heard that class party will be heled tomorrow. I am wondering whether I will go to the party or not. Because the party will be over late at night, I think it is not good for preparing for leaving the day after tomorrow. Anyway, I almost finished the packing of my bag, so I have not so many things to do tomorrow. According to the weather forecast, the rainy season was over around the Toukai Region. The summer has finally begun. I think it is not so hot this summer. I feel cool when I wear the no-sleeve shirts. I think Touhoku, the nothern part of Japan is much more cooler than where I am. So we should bring the warmer clothes. |

But there are unsettling news today in Touhoku. A big earthquake was occurred today and some houses were destroyed by shaking. So, my parents were worried about the desaster. According to the news, although the earthquake was very big, no people was seriously injured. I think it is a good sign because it means many people were careful enough to prepare for the natural desaster. I think we have to consider about this problem constantly in daily life. I hope the earthquake will stop soon. |

I went to Nakamatidai in the morning and I met with my sister at lunch time. We ate Chinese dishes and drank mango juice. It contained tapioca and I like it very much. I knew the big exhibition of fireworks will be held tomorrow at Sumidagawa. I heard that it is the most biggest fire work exibition in Japan. I watched the work which was chosen as a most beautiful firework last year. It was like aurora and I was astonished of the sight. I wish I could go again this year, tomorrow. It is getting hotter and hotter everyday, but it is said that the rainy season has not been over yet. It is strange because the announcement of the end of the rainy season is made no leter than 7/20 as ususal. I expect the rainy days will be over soon. According to the news, people visiting the seashore is less than last year. And moreover, the children of the elementary school are not able to swim in the pool because of the water temperature and the weather. I think the difference of the climate gives us a lot of changes this year. Some people can enjoy this change, on the other hand the other people have trouble. I do not know why these climate changes occure, but I think some of these causes are based on our activity. We have to consider about this fact.
I went to Center Minami today and drank coffee. There I was wondering about how to spend the summer vacation. One of my idea is to go to International Swimming Center and do some exercise. I will consider about the detail after the examination. |

| I went to school today to hand in the report. No sooner after reaching the school, I came back home. On my way to come back home, I dropped at the bakery shop and drank a tea. Then, I read the book. Now, I am reading the book of biology. In this book, major focus is on the ethics. Owe to new biological technology, we can produce a new recombinant food or test-tube baby. But we have to keep the problem about morality or ehics in mind. We need to consider about the standard between good and bad thing. According to the book, the author said it is doubtful whether the embryo shold be referred as human or not. I personally think the embryo has the ability to be a human and so it is proper to consider it as human. But I think it contains more than I can explain or discuss. We are expected to develop the basic standard and think more about moral issue. |

I went to Regional Center in the morening. Although I left home early, I could't get the seat.
In the afternoon, I watched the DVD which I rented last Thursday. The title of the DVD was "New Chinema Paradise". This movie was made in Italy. I think it is the first time for me to watch the Italian movie. The component of the story was different from that of American or Japanese. The little Italian boy was very cute and he was a good actor. I watched about Hawaii today. It reminded me of the travel to Hawaii last summer. I wish I could go again during this summer. Especially, I like the color of sky and sea in Hawaii. During the summer vacation, I plan to take part in some English class. I remembered that Joyce recommended me the SGG. SGG is one of volunteer groups and the member of this group help the foreigners who travel Japan. The people of this group, for example, walk with foreingers around Kamakura and tell them about the history of temples in English. I think it is a little bit difficult for me to translate the information to English, but I thinik it is worth to try. To guide people is very useful way to master speaking English. First of all, I will cotact with the group and hear about the activity in summer. |

I went to the hospital because I had an ache in backbone. I took a X-ray movie, and as a reslult, I had a little damage in diaphraguma. So I need to take a medicine. I think that's the cause of recent weakness. I rested at house all day.
I finished the report yesterday but I noticed the semester final examination will begin soon. I have 3 subjects in one day. Thus I have to prepare for it. I will study cell biology and bioinformatics tomorrow. |

In the morning, at 8AM I had the call. At first, my mother received the call and she said she couldn't understand what the man had said and who he was. In fact, the call was from Elic, a Colombian student. Because he can't speak Japanese, he speaked English. I met Elic when I went to LSI. He said he finished the LSI and now he is going to college and majoring internatilnal business. I wish I could go to Berkeley during the summer vacation. He also said he wanted to go to Japan. I hope he can visit Japan.
I was very surprised at the call, but I feel very happy to keep contact with him. I want to meet with every students I met at LSI. I think I have to be active enough to contact with everyone. Also, I have to practice speaking English. I will study English hard during the summer. |

I drove to the high school to send my sister. Because it is the first time for me to drive all the way by myself, my father was worried about my driving. Unfortunately, on our way to go back, I chose the wrong way, and I hit the car a little. The road was so narrow to go through. I shold have chacked the road on the map.
Anyway, I tried to do my reports, but I have no idea what to write and I am very annoyed. I think I need to fresh. Tomorrow, although I have no class, I have to go to the school to hand in my repots of laboratory. Maybe I will finish the reports after that. |

The spring semester was over today. But the finel examination is still remaining. I have to finish my report and study for the exam.
After school, I went to Center Minami with my mother and bought some food. At Star Bucks, I drank Coconuts Frapetino. It includes lots of whip cleam and it looked like a parfait. I noticed I ate too much recently. I think foods at the Star Bucks are high in calories. I have to remind this fact. I applied for WFP office internship. I think the experience of the internship is very effective. But, because of the time schedule, it is difficult to search for companies which match my expectation. I am wondering what to do during summer vacation. I heard that the summer at Senior year is very busy. So I want to spend worthful time. |

Recently, I feel I am not so strong enough because I tend to be sick. But at university, I have to go to school every day and I can't be absent from school. When I was a high school student, I sometimes rested to be fine. But now, we have a responsibility to attend the class. It's the big difference between high school and university. I think we are dealt with as an adult who is the member of the society.
Anyway, I want to be more stronger. So, my aim during the summer vacation is to keep the good health condition and build up my physical strength. I felt happy today because I received the E-mail from Joyce. She sent me a long sentence. I am very glad to hear from her. |

I went to Toujyou Kaikan today. I got up very early. Because I had the stomach ace last night, I worried about my health condition. Fortunately, I felt good today.
The hall was located exactly in front of the imperial Palace and we could see the groly hole from the 5th floor. At first, I did the job as a receptionist. I could meet some colleagues who came to Pacifico Yokohama. To take the exam, a lot of internists came there. I heard that all the doctors have to take the exam of their speciality. After that I entered the room to supervise test takers. The test time was very long and I think to be a doctor is much more harder than I had expected. Although it is said that doctors can make a lot of money and become rich, it is not that simple. During the test, I glanced at the test. I think the questions of the test include a lot of technical terms or photos and it looked very difficult . At lunch we could eat at the restaurant. Because the hall is used for mariage-hall, it looked rich and I felt lucky. After lunch, I had difficulty sitting up because I felt very sleepy. After all, I supervised almost 7 hours. Although I felt exhausted, I think it's a good part time job. If I have a chance to get job like this, I would like to try again. |

I went to Sakuragityou after school. Although I planed to go to the interview, I had the secound thought and canceled. I went to Landmark Tower and dropped at Turry's coffee. I went to there for the first time because it didn't so stand out. It was a good shop and there were a lot of comfortable seats. After all, I sat there about 3 hours and studied English. I searched the words using the electrical dictionarly. Also there were some computers which we can use for the porpose of internet. And the view from the outside seats was very good. We could see the whole view of MM21. I think this shop is very good place to spend time.
Tomorrow, I will go to Toujyou Kaikan near the palace. I have to get up early and wear a suits. |

During doing my homework, I had an E-mail from my classmates, and I noticed everyone was doing the same thing as me at that time. Anyway, I was glad to finish one of my works. Tomorrow, I plan to go to Sakuragityou after school because I had the call from one company which I had applied the day before yesterday. I don't know for sure whether that company is good or not, so I'd like to judge a company by visiting. Anyway, before that, I have to take the pictures of mine. Because I tend to close my eyes whenever I take the pictures, I always have trouble to get the good one.
Now I am wondering how I can keep sight of the picture. |

I felt so sick that I could't remember what I had learned today.
After I came back home, I took some medicines and I had become well. Anyway, I have to rest and recover the condition before the weekend. Tomorrow, I will do some home work. I noticed I shold be careful for choosing for job because I am not so strong enough to work too much. I wish I were more stronger. Maybe I shold do more exercise. |

I went to the schol to hear about the summer school. I heard that we will board the ship and collect some marine creatures. We will be served some dishes, but the price is surprisingly cheap. So I wonder what kind of dishes will be arranged. Also, we may have the free time as well as other work. I hope we can enjoy the group work and do some activities. |

Today, I had the class of basic biological science. I learned about the neuron. It is said that the disease caused by neuro sistems is difficult to cure now because the research is not so developed. I hope the effective medicine or treatment will be found out. I also learned most of reseach of genotype have been done at Salt lake city because there are a lot of Mormons. And mormons keep their family trees, in other words, evolutionaly trees and they tend to marry people in their group. So it is easy to reseach the genetic disease. I didn't know about that.
I ate Banana nuts cake at Star Bucks which is the new sold sweets. It tasted good. And after I came back home, I ate cherry cake which my mother baked. I think I ate too much sweets, but I have the sweet teeth. Tomorrow, although I have no class on Wedenesday, I have to go to school to hear a description of bioscience laboratory in summer. I heard that I need to bring a lot of things. I think I pay attention not to forget to bring the degital camera. It will be useful to recold the image of marine creatures. |

Today is the Tanabata day. Unfortunately, it was cloudy today, so we can't see the Amanogawa.
At phycology class, I learned about the stalking activities. There are 5 types of stalkers. And some of which are aggressive. The difficulties to resolve these problems are in the recognition of the activities. We have to recognize it as soon as possible and help the victims. Although it is said that the stalking was understood in the society, I think, for example, the stalking in the company or school may not be recognized by other people. I decided to do the assistant of examination on Sunday. I got the E-mail from the company. Because I have been searching for some part-time job, I was glad to find out this one. |

| I was very tired today because I went to Harajuku after school and it was very hot. There were a lot of people who were going to shops. At this time, most of shops have sale, but I had no time to drop at shops. I went to the interview. At lunch, I went to cafe at Shibuya. A foreigner was sitting next to me and he was studying Japanese useing a pocket dictionaly. The woman sitting next to the foreigner spoke to him. And soon after that we talked each other. I told him the difference of Japanese meaning between Ateru and Ataru. It was very difficult to explain in English or even in Japanese. The woman taught him very clealy. I respected her. The woman also taught him the meanng of Japanese proverb. In fact, I didn't know that proverb. I ashamed myself. I noticed I have to study Japanese, too. The American boy can speak Japanese very well and he studied very hard. He learned the Japanese words by heart from A to Z. I have to immitate him. I think cafe is good place to meet someone and talk. We may have a chance to come across people from other countries. |

I finished the book, "The Hours". It was very different kind of book I had ever read. There were 3 women in the book. They are living in different era. and all of them related to each other in some way. The way of writhing of the author was very strange and I caught my breath. Although it was very difficult to understand all of the story, it was unique book. Next, I will read the book of biotechnology, which I bought at shop of UCB. Tomorrow, after the school, I went to Harajuku. I will drop at some shops. |

Today, we finished our laboratory work very fast. So I could come back home at 6'O clock. I watched the TV program about the wild animal. A lot of wild animals have their own specific devices to survive in the world. One kind of birds, for example, take the piece of bread, which people feed for other birds, and use it as the bait. In this way they can fish. I didn't assume they can do such a smart thing, and so I was surprised to watch them.
Now, I have a lot of reports, I have to finish them during this weekend. But, on Saturday, I have the oral interview for the part-time job. I will prepare for it and I will not be able to other work on Satuday. I probably do my works on Sunday. |

After I came back home, I tried the new clothes. I noticed I have some clothes which I hadn't worn yet. I bought those clothes at the grab bag sale. Some clothes were difficult to match the other clothes. I think I should sell these clothes. I heard that the flea market was very useful. Because I have some new clothes which I wanted to sell, I may be able to take part in the flea market. We have free time during the summer vacation. So at that time, we will apply for the branch shop. It must be interesting for us even if we can't be paid so much. |

Also, he helped the wife who comitted suicide and wondered in the hell. I remembered I watched the good movie last night. The title of the program was "Jack". It is the story of boy who grows up 4 times as faster as ordinally boy. So, when he was ten years old, he looked like a man of 40 years old. He annoyed with the fact of his short life, but he had good classmates and teacher. At the end of the scene, the graduation of the high school, he gave a speech. That speech touched to me. He referred him as flashing star. Although his life is shorter than every other boy, he tries to enjoys his daily life. I was moved by his way of thinking.

Today, when I read the Town Work, I found out the job of opening staff. Futhermore, the job is at the Star Bucks, which I have been hoping to do. The place of the shop was Futako. So, I woudered it was a little far from my house. All the workers have to work more than 4hours, 3days a week. So I was concerened about my time schedule. The opening day is on September. So at that time, I may have some free time because it is the middle of the summer vacation. Anyway, I heard that the job of Star Bucks was very popular and a lot of young students was applied for the part-time job. So I think whether I can get the job or not will depend on the time and the money. I wish the condition of the job was more frexible.
If the minimum working days are two days a week, I might not wonder to apply. Although I considered the work at the shop was very hard and busy, I still think I can get some benefit through the job. Probably I will find out some part-time job in a few weeks. |

Because geese tend to think it, which they saw for the first time since they had been born, as their parent, the girl became the geese's mother. But according to my sister, she had no room in her heart and everyone was assumed she came there only to take the score. I think it is sad, but at the same time, I sympathized with her. Because we who are taking the scientific course are very busy in senior year for research work, we have little time for another subjects. I think it is not her fault but the problem is in the establishment. If there were some assistances for teaching program, more wishing students could participate in the program. | Today, I heard about mind control at the class of phsicology. The teacher said in the mind control, people begin to believe something without a pain or compulsion. The difference between brainwashing and mind control is whether it includes the pain or not, and in the case of brainwashing, people can change their mind after the treatment. Generally, when people feel some groundless fear, they might believe something new to them. Especially if those precepts match for their mind, they can't notice that they are in the mind control easily. I heard the some examples from the teacher which occured during the Korean War. I didn't know it became widely researched by a lot of researcher after the war. It is entirely new idea for me. I am looking forward to taking the next lecture. |

| I almost read the book, "reaminds of the day". Itis the essay of old England. The hero of the novel is a butler who served Load Darlington at the Darlington Hall. He is motering around the country of England. On his way, he comes across a lot of people, for example people in the village and farmers, and it reminds him the word, "what is dignity". Because the era of this story is around the World Warµ, at Darlington Hall, a lot of magoos meet and discuss the problem which occurred in the world. The butler went trough the bitter experience during his working. He thinks butlers should not relate with political or social discussion too much and the only thing they have to give the better service. So he remins silent when he is asked some issues about the world occurring. I thought some of his way seems strange for us. I doughted whether this kind of habit has still remained now in England. Because there are no king or peer in Japanl, it looks like far from our society. It is very interesting. |

We finished the laboracory of development. I feel relieved now.
I found out a good one-day job at HP. The company is the same as I had worked as the usher. I could get some useful benefit through the work before. This time the description of job is to survile the examination of doctors. It sounds like good. It is getting more and more humid. The atmosphere is heavy with moisture. Because my hair is naturally curly hair, I always suffer from trying to keep the hair style. Sometimes, I tried the streat perm, but it couldn't be helpful. I wish summer would be coming soon. |

| At the laboratory class, we finished the work as we had planed before. But after all, it took about 7hours. Although the process was not so complicated, at some point we took pain in getting the accurate results. By and large the result was almost as well as we had assumed. Now what we need to do is to prepare for presentation. So, tomorrow morning, we plan to practice the way to present in 8minutes. I heard that the teacher or TA were very strict about the presentation. I think it's a good opportunity to take part in the real presentation. I wish I could have much more time. If we have had more time, we could examine using the biochemical or physical way. Because both of us are interested in physical part of biology, we hoped to try some other methods beyond biology. |

I watched the movie, "Matrix", at Shibuya. It was SF movie and it contained a lot of action scenes. Especially the scene of Neo and Smith was spectacular. I think the film was made of many special effects. But I read the article which said the woman in the movie tried the action scene without a stuntman and she injured herself during the film shoot. Thus some of the action scene was really made by the actor or actress.
I also read that there were a lot of twins in the movie. The story was more complicated than I had expected. The existence of oracle or Smiths was especially unexpected for me. The movie will continue the next volume. I am looking forward to wathing the release of the next one. |

In the afternoon, I did a pre- experiment with my partner. We went to the laboratory room. There were some graduate students and they were working hard for their thesis. Some students were talking in English and reading English jounals. The atmosphere of the room was very quiet. I thought they were very busy prepring for the presentation now.
We examined the plate device which was used for observation of microscope. We tried some type of ways and discovered the best way. After that we made the slides using Power Point. It was very difficult to make the figures in it. |

| I had a phycology class today. I examined the result of TGK, a parsonality test. TGK is often used the scene of employment examination. We can get an information of personal character from the result. I found about in my case the score of adlut aspect was high, on the other hand the score of child aspect was low. This means I tend to wish the ideal and be strict to person or myself. The other interesting point was the score of A was also low. The teacher said most of students whose major is science tend to have a high score in A. So, it means I am not at all a student in science. I think in some ways it represents the truth. I sometimes feel I am not suitable for studying science because I don't have a speculative point of view. Anyway the result of the test was very interesting for me. The result may not correspont to real character because sometime people have a mind to be judged better by other person. But still it tells some point of real view of personal character. I remembered when I was a high school student, I took the test like this. As much as I could remember, the result was almost the same as this time. It shows my personal character have not changed so much from the high school student. I want some people to try TGK and compare the result. |

| Today, I drived a car. Because I have not accustomed to driving the new car, I practiced again. Especially, the width of the new car is bigger than that of old one, so I felt diffuculty in handling. I went to Fuji Drive Way, there were lots of steep roads and curves. And top of the drive way was covered with fog and as far as I could see it was almost white world. The height of that spot was 2000 M and the temperature was 12¡î. Thus it was a little cold. I have not climbed the Mt.Fuji yet. Some day I feel like try to climb the mountain. I saw some people were preparing for climbing in front of the lodge. Most of them wore walm clothes and had big baggages. Althrough the drive way was good place to practice driving, the highway from there to back my home was very crowdid and I felt annoyed. If it were not for traffic jam, I could enjoy the entire trip. |

I went to Center Minami with my sister after school. We went to the public library and ice cream shop. There were a lot of people because there was held a campaign. I searched for the universith in U.S. I considered what is the main point of choosing the university. First that occur to my mind was location. It is important for me to be safe. I also thought that the climate is also important thing to take into account. Of course, the program which is taken place or faculty is also essential point. After all, I could find out 6 or 7 universities. From now on, I have to examine the result of the search. |

I dealt with asteroidea at the labotatory class. We got the neuron out of the body of the asteroid. It looked like a thin string. We also observed the fertilization. Next week, we have to make a presentation about the research, so we need to decide the theme of experiment. I think it is very diffucult for us to decide the topic by ourselves because we are junior students and lack of experience of the research. But if we become senior students, everyone is expected to research by oneself. Thus it means we have a good chance to try as a practice this time.
Anyway, I didn't notice that asteroid was as stinky as other chemical liquid. It smelled badly after I washed my hands. After all, we finished our today's work at 9'O clock. Recently, whenever I have a laboratory class, it continues after 6'O clock just I heard from the teacher previously. |

I received the another E-mail from Megan. It reminds me the days in Berkeley. She said she have been keeping touch with another students. Some of them still stay in there and she sometimes calls them. I think it good to talk with them with an international call. She also said, however, some of them, in fact Japanese, often say they are busy at that time. It sounds bad. I think Japanese tend to be pressed by time and can't their own time. it is sad thing. Although it is kind of feature of our people, we have to be more relax or something. We need not change national identity, but we can absorb good aspects of other characters.
It reminds me the story of MOMO. The gray men steal time from the people and people begin to be busy. The point is people has lost the sense of enjoying the daily life. I wish I could be more relaxed and live combining with pleasure. |

We went up to the top of the hill and went to the rose garden. It is said that the roses are at its best in this season. We could see a variety of beautiful roses. Some were red, and others were white or yellow. It looked like an English garden. The building was also beautiful. It was a site of diplomat's house. I remembered I watched this kind of house in Nagasaki.
It was too hot, so I felt headache. Actually, the temperature was more than 28¡î. It reminds us the summer is coming. |

Then, we went to the 31 to eat ice cream. Because there is held a campaign through this month, we could eat triple ice cream. Although it tasted good, it was too big for us. At home, we wathed the Matrix again. We watched the making process of the movie. I noticed most of the action scenes were made by themselves and I was surprised. We thought Kianu looks more hondsome when he wears the glasses. Tomorrow, the class will happen to be canceled because of the baseball game of our university. I hope so. |

In the morning, I noticed I received E-mail from Megan. I have been concerned about her because she lives in Taiwan now. According to the news, a lot of Taiwanese are suffering from SARS. The problem is getting worse and some peoplr are in the serious condition. She wrote to me that she was fine and okey now. I felt relieved to hear that.
She also said, she got a new native teacher who teaches her English. I think it's very important to find a English speaking teacher. In the afternoon, I went to Shibuya to take TOEFL pre exam. It rained heavily and I got wet. After I finished the CBT, I could get the score immediately.I expected to improve my listening skill. But, unfortunately, there was not remarkable difference in score. On the other hand, my writing score got better than before. At this point, I felt glad. As a result, I have to master reading and structure sessions. Next week, I will take the real TOEFL exam. I hope I am able to improve my score. After the test, I went to the Shibutika, and dropped at the Pariya, the shop which is famous for prepared food and gelato. I never go to Shibuya without dropping at this shop. |

I had a laboratory class today. I observed the blood cells with microscope. It was very difficult to count the number of the cells, because I am not familiar with using microscope. Besides, sometimes the shadow of my eyerashes disturb me.
Recently, I made it a rule to read a book on my way to school. Sometimes, I can find useful words in it, and so I am eager to master these expressions. I am thinking about how to memorize the words. When a high school student, I used to make a sheet. But now, I feel difficulty in doing same things as I had been. I heard that one of the good ways is to use all the five senses, that is to say, touch, taste, hearing, eyesight, and smell. So I would like to try the best way to stretch out with my feelings as much as possible. It is often said that the ability of memorization is at its best when we are about 18 years old, and after that, we tend to lose its ability. It is no use crying it, but we shold not miss absorbing the new imformation of knowledge. |

Today, I went to the movie and watch "Two weeks notice". A woman, who is the lawyer and interested in charitable cause, met the well-heeled investor. First, she disliked the guy and she said she would retire in two weeks. But, in fact, she became fall in love with him. Although I think it is a simple story, still it has the power to sooth our heart. Some people might say it is just a kind of love story, but I consider it also has the humorous part. In the story, the woman said "if we change, the world might change". I was impressed by this. It's not at all unusual but I thought it is a good expression .
After all, one of the good effects to watch the movie is we can seize a new idea of thinking way. I have to write another thing. I went to Kujiraken, a noodle restaurant, for the first time. It is said to be one of the best noodle shops in Japan. A lot of famous people visited there and many people come from far away. I heard about this shop from my friend ,who loves noodle, and I even watched it on TV. Although it locates near my house I have never gone there. Thus I decided to go today. First of all, I was surprised to witness there was a long line in front of the shop regardless it was before the opening time. I waited 30 minutes to enter the shop and then I could eat Shina Soba. The noodle was thin and the soup is not too heavy. It's match to my taste. I can recommend as a fine shop. |

I sometimes consider about my future plan, after the graduation of the university. The one thing which occurs to my mind is how I can get a job. Because I plan to study abroad, I am not sure I will be able to get a confirm job in Japan. What I am thinking now is, first of all, to get a master's degree, then I will go back to Japan and search a job taking an education course. This means that I have to go to the university again to get a teaching credential. But the problem is which will take at least about 2years to complete the course work. Thus, probably I need to search for another job before considering it.
In short, I should enroll the educational course as soon as possibe and prepare for the plan of 2years after now. Would've Should've Could've. Anyway, I will go to the movies tomorrow to watch "two weeks notice". I hope it will be a good one. |

Today, we had a small earthquake. The scale of an earthquake was more than 3 in Yokohama. The epicenter of this earthquake was said to be in Tohoku and in Morioka the scale was 6. Today, I had a class of monetary-fiscal policy. I heard about the wheather deliverty. This means when some companies which depend on fine weather sell their products, they insured against the weather. If the weather is rainy, for example, and they can't gain the profit, they can get the insurance. It is kind of so called delivertive. I thought this sorts of idea may have wide variety of application.
I am now absorbed in bagle. It's one of bread and derive from Juish. Juish people often make them as their daily food staple. Although it's kind of bread, it does not contain butter, milk, eggs or other kind of oil. Thus bagles are noted as a healthy food in Japn now. Some years ago, there caught on bagle cafe in Japan. And now there remains some famous shops in Yokohama. Thus I am enjoying visiting new shops and comparing them. In America, I always eat bagles as a breakfast. They are very big and cram-full. But it is difficult to find the same appearence of bagles in Japan. I only found out imported shops. Anyway, I like to try a lot of new foods^^ |

This week, I had two laboratory classes on Thursday and Friday. The theme of the experiment was DNA. I took pain in getting the result that match the right gene. Because I failed to succed in PCR, I did the same thing again after the class, My teather and TA were kind enough to help me until the 10PM. It took a lot of time to go through the all the experiment. So, half my way, because we had a little time to wait the reaction, I went to Hiyoshi with my classmates and ate at Ootoya. After that, I went to the laboratory room at Yanagawa Kankyuusitu and I continued the experiment. There were a lot of people in the room. I heard that many people stayed at school until late even 1AM. I thought graduate students were working very hard. Finally, I finished my task and went back home at 11:30. It is the first time for me I came back so late because of the laboratory.
Next morning, I also got up early and went to school earlier. Then, I continued the work. Although I couldn't get a sufficiant result, I considered I had experienced the useful time. Now that we finished all the experiment, I have to write the report. Probably, I will spend the whole weekend to finish my report. |

Today, I watched the movie, "Chicago". The casts are Renee Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones. It's a heterochromatic movie, because most of the parts of the movie are consisted of musical. The two actresses danced churn. I was surprised at the appearence of Zellweger, because when she acted in the Bridget Jones's Diary, she gained weight, but in this movie, she was beautiful in appearence. She has a talent of acting. She played the role of prisoner in jail and get the chance to act on a stage in Chicago. On the other hand, previous famous actress, Catherine was also in a jail, but she was hapless to success in Chicago by herself. In conclusion, the movie describes them as the out of the ordinaly jazz dancers. Personally, although I am not so interested in musical, it's a well-made movie. I could see those actresses practiced a lot for making this movie.
I subscribed in the service of Chinema today. So, from now on, I will put by points. I may be able to get a free chicket if I watched the movie 6 times. Now, many movies which I have hoped will be released. I will probably go to the theatre every Wedenesday. |

| I had a phycology class in the morning today. The theme of the lecture was development of the adolescence. I learned like this in the ethics class when I was a highschool student. I was interested in this kind of topics. I heard that when we were in the adolescence, most of people had a hard time because of the rapid physical development. We suffer from establishing one's identity or worry about one's reputation. The teacher showed us an interesting examples. A lot of highschool students choose their future job when they are in the adolescence. According to the research report, they tend to choose their job because of their impression which they ecperienced when they were babies. The boy who was neglected by their mother when he was a baby, for example, became a famous researcher. Because he lacked the human relationship, he was more involved in objects rether than humanity. All of this fact shows us how important the childhood experience is. Tuus we considered it seriously and we need to establish our own identity. |

Today, I had a part-time job at Pacifico Yokohama. I was a receptionist at the entrance robby as I said before. I left home at 6:50 AM wearing suit. I think I was like a job-hunting student. At lunch time, we were given the lunch boxes. We ate them listening the lectures. I noticed most of physicians came here to get the unit of credit. The visitors were consisted of from the younger to the aged. There were also couples or parent-child. It seemed all of them were smart and abundant.
At the end of the lecture, we had a job again. We stamped the card which visitors brought. At the end of the day, I found out it's worth to involved in again. I heard that there will be held the summit like this at the international forum on June. I probably apply again if we have any schedule at the time. |

Although I planned to go to the movies, I forgot to have applied to the orientation for graduate students. A few weeks ago, I found the HP of study abroad, and I decided to take part in the orientation which was held at American Center at Shibaura. I participated it as an observer because I am a prospect student.
At the venue, I found out there were a lot of newly admitted students who go to the famous graduate students, for example, Harvard or MIT. Most of them go to the Master's degree. I heard about the story of actual graduate students's personal experience. One of students, who went to MIT, said it is most important to search for a good adviser. She could find a nice professor and decided her theme of paper during the summer program. I also heard about the job-hunting. Most of American students tend not to get a rush on finding a job. So we Japanese need to find a job by ourselves. They said we can get in touch with Japanese companies at the job fair, or some students go back to Japan during the summer vercation and apply for intern. I have a chance to talk with other students who came there as a observer during the coffee break. They will apply for graduat schools this year, so they are preparint for the exams, TOEFL and GRE. One of the observers said the score of the GRE was more important than that of TOEFL. This advise is a good reference. I have to prepare for it in advance. After coffee break, we had a question-and-answer session. Then I heard that now that the system of getting the student Visa was changed, we have to be careful for getting one. I could get lots of usefl information about what I shold do after visitting the United States that I didn't know before. I got acquainted with a few members of them after session. I was inspired through this orientation. I knew a lot of students in the science like me are eager to study abroad in the near future. I would like to make a lot of good friends. I consider that's the key to success. |

I am reading the book, "Catch me if you can" now. As usual, I read it on my way to school. Before reading,I watched the movie twice. I am steeped in this story.
It refered to a life of con man who swindled money out of the banks of all over the world. To my astonishment, it was the completely true story. I couldn't believe it because not only did ge deceived the people, he also played the role of pilot, doctor, and lawyer. I heard it is often the case that cons are smart and handsome. According to the book, he was made up as a pilot only 18 years old and fabricated the IDs. He knew how to choose the dupe and escape being prizoned. He was so inteligent that he passed the law exam after 2 weeks study. when he was arrested by FBI, he visited almost all the parts of the world by plane. After that, he has been working as a FBI egent to cooperate for examing the fabricated check. I considered it was the interesting point that the smartest criminals are given the chances to make the most use of thir ability to contribute to the society even he committed the serious crime. In the U.S., for example, I heard the another story of man who working in the FBI. I think that's why it is said that U.S. has a sophisticated Criminal Investigation Division. |

I had 10 days' vacation because we had a Golden Week. During this week, I went to Hakone. There I could see Mt.Fuji and beautiful lake. I practiced driving on our way. Because we bought a new car just last week, I am pretty new in driving that car.

So I will go later on. Yesterday, I went to Shinjuku by myself and dropped at Isetan and Kinokuniya. At Isetan, I ate a strange soft-cream, Matha & pdding soft cream. I doughted whether it was made of pudding, but it tasted good. I bought the book of GRE at Kinokuniya because I decided to prepare for GRE. From now on, I plan to practice constantly. Today, I went to Flower shop with my mother, and bought some roses. Rose is my favorite flower. We bought potted yellow and pink roses and I carried by my new bycycle. At home, I noticed I got a mail from Joyce. I felt very happy and I was encouraged a lot. |

| This weekend, I went to Kamogawa, Chiba, with my family. I drove to Chiba through Tokyo Bay Aqua Line.On our way, we could see beautiful sea firefly. I didn't know there is such a creature in the sea. We reached the hotel at evening on Saturday. On Sunday, we went to Aquarium. Some performances were held at this aquarium, and we decided to see. We saw dolphins, seals, and sea killers. Especialy, I was interested in sea killers. I fond out they were smart and sophisticated than I had expected. Although they were thought to be dangerous, I thought they were cute. I could take pictures with them. It was a good experience for me. After that, we went through Bousou Peninsula and went back to Tokyo. In the evening we could see a beautiful night scene at Minatomirai21. Tomorrow, I will have only one class in the morning. All of other classes are canceled becaurse it will be the right before Golden Week. |

| Today, I got a message from Megan. I think it is wonderful I can keep in touch with people whom I met in Berkeley. I made new pages using Home Page Builder. It was very useful and I could make them much more easily. I plan to write a diary constantly. At school, I had a biology class. I noticed I have to prepare for GRE subject test. I am thinking about take Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Test. But, I felt a little difficulty in solving the questions of that test. To prepare for the test, I have to study Molecular Cell Biology. Tommorrow is the holiday of the school, because my university was found on 4/23. |
