<辞書調べ速度向上&難語文の読解(意味推理)トレーニング自主教材>
辞書引きは面倒!辞書に慣れていない人にはもっと面倒!そこで作ることに...。
市販の辞書練習ワークシートは「辞書を調べる」ことが主眼なので、辞書自体が学習の主役になりがち。肝心の「辞書を使った問題解決」の点で達成感が味わいにくいようです。辞書自体が語学の主役になっては本末転倒!。辞書は、言葉で意志の疎通が完成することをゴールとする時の単なる「便利な武器」という役割にとどまるべきです。
辞書調べが遅いと辞書は面倒。だから速いほうが良いに決まっている。速くするためとはいえ、リストアップされた単語を調べるだけの作業では、単に速度向上しか見込めない。もっとも、そんな「調べ速度のための調べ」をストイックにハングリー精神の鬼となって、日々打ち込むことにどれだけの意味があるのでしょう。
速度向上が目的であっても、「武器」を無駄に使うことはありません。せっかく調べるなら「ことば」の本来の目的にその労力を生かすべきです。そこでクイズをやろう!となりました。1年間の毎回の授業のために作り続けて153問。どの生徒も辞書に頼らざるを得ないような難しい語をわざと用いて、回りくどく、しかし極身近なものが答えとなるようにしました。生徒全員が辞書を本来の目的で用いる瞬間を目の当たりにして、圧倒されました。「新出単語だよ」と言われて調べる受動的取り組みではなく、自ら答えに辿り着くために必要な単語を、自分で選んで実際に自分で調べる。大切にすべき活動のあり方を見たような気がします。
153問のうち、Nativeの点検を受けたのは次の130問です。実施半年で、1語あたり1分30秒だった辞書引き時間が30秒台に短縮!1年後にはそんな生徒が7割を越えました。1語に3分以上かかっていた数人の生徒も一人残らず1分前後に…。数ヶ月に1度、辞書引きスピード計測をやって、実際に速くなっていることを実感させられると更に生徒は頑張ります。「辞書引きを速くさせたい」、「辞書嫌いを少しでも減らしたい」なんて方、よかったらどうぞ。使っても使わなくても感想・意見・批評などありましたらお教え下さい。また、他の実践例や妙案などもお待ちしています。
授業で用いる要領(例)
・1授業に2問ずつプリントし、辞書を用いて行わせる。
・答えはわかり次第用紙に書いて挙手させる。(答えが聞こえてしまうと、他の生徒はやる気を喪失するので)
・机間巡視が大切!。挙手しなくても答えを書いてる者には正誤を教える。
・基本的にたくさん調べるのが目標!
・辞書を使わずに解答した者には「勘がいい」と褒める。
・辞書に慣れていない者には、答えに辿り着いたかよりも、調べた語数の多さを褒める。
辞書引きトレーニングだけじゃなく...
学力の高い層の集団には推理力を高める教材になるが、この教材が生まれた背景には、あまりにも幅が広い学力層のクラスで、生徒それぞれが自分の学力に合わせて別々の目的で取り組める教材の必要性がありました。高学力の生徒も本気で取り組める!
