"Ceremony for a new car at shrine" April 10, 2005 Japanese version is available.

My sister got a new car then we went to a shrine to have a purification ceremony for our safety in the car.

How to pray for our safety in a new car

We went to a shrine in my neighborhood without any appointment.
We visited a shrine office after we left our car in a parking space of the shrine.
Then we asked a staff to perform purification ceremony and gave him some money. The price isn't fixed. You can decide it by yourself. It might be 3000, 5000, 10000JPY and so on in general.
He allowed us to enter the shrine by our new car from the parking space.

MAZDA RX-8 is going to the shrine and there is a classical red shrine gate. It's difficult to have such experience.

Here is a stone slope for cars. Convenient!

It is facing toward the main hall

This photo makes me imagine that the car might bow to the main hall like other people.

From the main hall. I feel it's looking the hall with its leering eyes.

Here is shrine but it looks same as a normal parking space in this photo.

A view from the main hall.

A Shinto priest (guardian of a shrine) gave us prayers by some short words. They were our address, my sister's name and the name of the car with pray words for our safety in a singsong.
You can see many people but all of them are strangers. We had an each ceremony in same time and same place. They came here for their baby.

Then we got out of the hall and the priest performed purification ceremony for our car. We spent about 30 minutes for all of this ceremony.
We have to open all doors before the purification ceremony.

He is performing it and throwing confetti. They looks like flying petals of a cherry blossom.

We didn't see so many people in this morning but we found some gallery of this car ceremony. I enjoyed it a little.
There were some foreigners in the gallery but I wonder if they can understand our feelings for this ceremony. Is is strange?

How Japanesque it is!
